New Legislation In Poland Will Punish Blasphemy With 2 Years In Prison

POLAND ADVANCES BAN OF BLASPHEMY
The leaders of the executive and legislative branches of government in Poland are currently at work on legislation that would make blasphe... punishable by a sentence of two years in prison. The lower house of the Polish legislature has already passed a version of the proposed law.
The Roman Catholic Church has a stranglehold on politics in Poland, making the country a de facto Christian Nationalist state.
Poland already has some laws against blasphemy. Last month, under these laws, the Polish artist Krzysztof Soroka was fined the equivalent of hundreds of dollars for creating a painting that offended Christian sensibilities by protesting against Poland’s ban of abortion.
The new anti-blasphemy legislation in Poland would, however, make punishments for criticizing Christianity even more severe.

Loren, it seems that Poland tries to update their outdated blasphemy law. The opposition to the government has taken unsuccessful action in this particular case.

Granted that I don't track Polish politics that closely, but for what little I have heard, Poland has been moving in this direction for a while. What I wonder now is just how much blowback the Polish government will get from the people on this (if any). I would also be curious to know what the Vatican thinks of this move.
And I'm hoping that this will become a bridge too far for Poland.

Thank you Clifford, I've been keeping tabs on the situation in Poland for quite some time and you are right the Christian right has become even more extreme. The Church and the right-wing are attempting to create a theocracy. I don't think they will succeed however because the Polish people are becoming more secular as time goes by
