Huckabee Says Connecticut School Massacre Occurred Because We ‘Removed God From Our Schools’

I'm speechless.  Perse

Former Arkansas governor and GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee attributed today’s deadly massacre in an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut to the lack of God and religion in public schools.

Addressing the tragedy on Fox News, Huckabee dismissed calls for stricter gun control and claimed that future violence can be prevented by solving matters of “the heart” and turning to God:

HUCKABEE: Ultimately, you can take away every gun in America and somebody will use a bomb. When somebody has an intent to do incredible damage, they’re going to find a way to do it… People will want to pass new laws, but unless you change people’s hearts, they’re our transition to the pastor side. This is a heart issue, it’s not something, laws don’t change this kind of thing.

NEIL CAVUTO (HOST): You know, inevitably people ask after tragedies like this, how could God let this happen?

HUCKABEE: Well, you know, it’s an interesting thing. We ask why there is violence in our schools, but we’ve systematically removed God from our schools. Should we be so surprised that schools would become a place of carnage because we’ve made it a palce where we don’t want to talk about eternity, life, what responsibility means, accountability? That we’re not just going to have to be accountable to the police, if they catch us. But one day, we will stand before a Holy God in judgment. If we don’t believe that, then we don’t fear that.

The American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer offered a similar explanation for the tragedy.

Students are certainly allowed to pray in public school. Students are allowed to have religious clubs in public school. They are allowed to meet and pray every day in school. Teachers and/or any other person working in a tax funded position are not allowed to lead such organizations or prayers as that is the state preferring a specific religion over other belief sets or irreligion and that is unconstitutional.  When they say the pledge it is nothing more than a preferring christianity over all other religions and non religion, a christian indoctrination tool extraordinaire. Our public schools are rife with religion, mostly christianity. Have you ever wondered why there have also been multiple shootings in churches? Of course you haven’t. Consider why that is.

The shootings at Fairchild AFB, which is a bastion of Christianity… yet it happened.

I only ask of you that you be consistent. If it is the absence of god that causes human created disasters then the explanation must extend to incidents that happen in malls, churches, restaurants, military bases, etc. To use incidents like this to advance your personal religious agenda of your god having been  “removed” from schools by advocating against the First Amendment and the laws put into effect by our Supreme Court (like Huckabee does every damn time for instance) is obscene. We have laws that the christians are obliged to live by as well as atheists, agnostics, muslims and all others in our pluralistic, democratic society. Christians act as if theirs is the only game in town and they are above the law. Quit it!

"...I would say, collective morality where we agree on certain principles to be true always."

Collective morality can not be always true if it begins with an agreement that never changes.

If god can't be bothered to save 20 children from such violence, then he can't be relied on to do anything at all, ever.  It's quite obvious, there is NO god.

Mass killings that happened the last few years: 1994…5 killed and 28 injured at Fairchild AFB in Spokane, a bastion of xtianity. 2012….Clackamas Mall south of Portland, Or just a few days ago…I think only 2 died there but I guess we took go...
d out of the mall? 2009…4 police murdered at café….apparently a godless café then? 2011…Carson City Nev, 5 dead, 7 injured in IHop shooting…IHop normally a god fearing bunch I thought…. 2012…Aurora movie theater…12 dead…58 injured...did Huckabee demonstrate how this was due to god’s absence by ejection? 1999….Wedgwood Baptist Church…8 dead…7 injured….god was kicked out of church? 2005…Living Church of god…7 dead  4 injured…god  on vacation? Here is a link to many other  mass murders in the USA…see how many you think were caused because god was ‘kicked out’ of where ever. I loathe Huckabee. http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2012/07/mass-shootings-map

Huckabee Tries To Walk Back Comments On God And School Shootings

Blog ››› 7 hours and 10 minutes ago ››› CHELSEA RUDMAN

Fox host and former governor Mike Huckabee attempted to walk back his comments linking a lack of religion in schools to Friday's tragic shooting in Newtown, CT. But while Huckabee now claims that he did not suggest "prayer in schools" would have prevented the shooting, he indeed seemed to imply that religion in schools could have done as much in his remarks on Friday.

On Friday, Huckabee responded to a question about God from Fox host Neil Cavuto by linking the removal of "God from our schools" to mass school shootings.

On Fox & Friends Saturday, he attempted to clarify his comments, saying, "Yesterday, I was on Neil Cavuto. He asked me, you know, where was God? I said, you know, we've systematically removed him from our culture, from our schools. Well, I've been barraged by people who have said that I said, well, if we just have prayer in schools, this wouldn't happen. That's not my point."

Huckabee continued:

HUCKABEE: No, my point is a larger point -- that we have as a culture decided that we don't want to have values, that we don't want to say that some things are always right, some things are always wrong. When we divorce ourselves from a basic sense of what we would call, I would say, collective morality where we agree on certain principles to be true always, then we create a culture -- not that it specifically creates this crime. It doesn't. But it creates an atmosphere in which evil and violence are removed from our sense of responsibility.

Yet while Huckabee now claims that his initial point wasn't that "if we just have prayer in schools, this wouldn't happen," Huckabee told Cavuto on Friday, "We ask why there is violence in our schools, but we have systematically removed God from our schools. Should we be so surprised that schools would become a place of carnage?" Huckabee concluded his remarks by saying, "Maybe we ought to let [God] in on the front end and we wouldn't have to call him to show up when it's all said and done at the back end."

As Huckabee acknowledged on Fox & Friends Saturday, his remarks have drawn much attention from the media.

Here are Huckabee's full remarks from Friday:

Where Mike Huckabee Needs To Go

By Tom Levenson December 15th, 2012

Mike Huckabee has never been what you might call my favorite person.  But it’s always depressing to see folks with influence plumb new depths.  By now, I’m sure you’ve heard he had to say about the Sandy Hook School shootings:

“We ask why there is violence in our schools, but we have systematically removed God from our schools,” Huckabee said on Fox News.”Should we be so surprised that schools would become a place of carnage?”

In other words:  Twenty-eight deaths, including the murder of twenty kids, was the fault not of the shooter, nor of a gun lobby that portrays military weapons as household tools.  Rather, said Huckabee, it was your fault and mine for having failed to appease his angry god by public worship in school.

Saying so is to implicate not just America at large in the crime.  It also adds up to a claim that those involved in the Sandy Hook Elementary School in particular were complicit in this massacre, for the banishment of one deity or another occured in that particular school too.  Lost a kid?  Too bad.  Shoulda prayed harder; shoulda held up a cross; shoulda, coulda, sorry old chum.

I can’t begin to write the rage and disgust I feel for that sanctimonious shit.  (Whether the word “shit” in that sentence applies to the man or the thought I’ll leave it to the reader to decide.) I want to say that it seems to me that there is a special place in hell Mike Huckabee.

37.262

Unfortunately, I don’t think I can say that any more eloquently  than a howl and a “with a rusty pitchfork too!” kind of remark.  Fortunately, there are others who could and did describe exactly the appropriate fate for Mr. Huckabee—from one of whom, with your permission, I will now borrow.

Here’s one possibility that would satisfy my sense of justice:

The sides were crusted over with a mould/Plastered upon them by foul mists that rise,/And both with eyes and nose a contest hold./The bottom is so deep, in vain our eyes/Searched it till further up the bridge we went,/To where the arch o’erhangs what under lies./Ascended there, our eyes we downward bent,/And I saw people in such ordure drowned,/A very cesspool ’twas of excrement./And while I from above am searching round,/One with a head so filth-smeared I picked out,/I knew not if ’twas lay, or tonsure-crowned./‘Why then so eager,’ asked he with a shout, ‘To stare at me of all the filthy crew?’/And I to him: ‘Because I scarce can doubt/That formerly thee dry of hair I knew…

But perhaps that’s not miserable enough.  How’s this?

Then we descended from the bridge’s head,/Where with the eighth bank is its junction wrought/And full beneath me was the Bolgia spread,/And I perceived that hideously ’twas fraught/With serpents; and such monstrous forms they bore,/Even now my blood is curdled at the thought./Henceforth let sandy Libya boast no more!/Though she breed hydra, snake that crawls or flies,/Twy-headed, or fine-speckled, no such store/Of plagues, nor near so cruel, she supplies,/ Though joined to all the land of Ethiop,/And that which by the Red Sea waters lies./’Midst this fell throng and dismal, without hope/A naked people ran, aghast with fear—/No covert for them and no heliotrope/Their hands were bound by serpents at their rear,/Which in their reins for head and tail did get/A holding-place: in front they knotted were./And lo! to one who on our side was set/A serpent darted forward, him to bite/At where the neck is by the shoulders met./Nor O norI did any ever write/More quickly than he kindled, burst in flame,/And crumbled all to ashes./And when quite He on the earth a wasted heap became/He on the earth a wasted heap became,/The ashes of themselves together rolled,/Resuming suddenly their former frame.

(Dante, Inferno, Canto XVIII, lines 106-121 and Canto XXIV, lines 79-106)

The translation’s a little old-fashioned, I know—but that’s what Gutenberg.org had on hand.

In any event, if I were a believer, I’d be hoping that Dante’s description of the torments of the damned is spot on.  And if it were then I would suggest to Mike Huckabee that he be afraid.  Very, very afraid.

Yes I'm angry.

My opinion is we have guns like only war torn countries have, even 3rd world. We should be embarrassed. People forget who profits from our children being murdered, the cartel, the gun lobbyist, the Politicians. Why are we lining their pockets, we stupidly give money to the 1%.
