How Much Religion Can We Tolerate In our State?

The separation of church and state is vital for both sides. It keeps the government from hording in on people's personal faiths, while at the same time, keeping religious extremist from using the government to push their faith (or lack of faith) on everyone. Its a win-win.

But where do we draw the line?

Their are clear violations of church and state and then there are smaller less obvious possible violations. Such as a politician wearing a small cross pendant or necklace. Would that be acceptable to you? How much separation would you say was enough or even too much?

If they wear things like a cross, pendant or necklace that doesn't bother me. The thing that does bother me is when they start saying they had a premonition from "God." That's bullshi*....or when Religion tries to get their "sheep" to vote certain ways. For example, when Religion starts wanting people to vote against things like abortion rights for women-they are always asking for trouble there. Or when Religion tries to impose itself in other areas of life....it's just not right. Religion should never be imposed on others-that's when it draws the line I think. Or when priests molest children-punishment should be handled without regard by the state. Only because all the church ever does is move the priest from point a to point b and at the most defrocked. However, and when in fact they should be fed to the state's justice system. It's only fair game I think.

Wearing a cross doesn't bother me. Saying you want to govern in jesus' name though would really piss me off. =)

I think the lines are being blurred on purpose. Religion has taken a sneaky approach influencing society. They train christian politicians for office, gaining influence. They push voucher systems for education, knowing that some parents will send their kids to christian schools on the taxpayers dime.

All the culture and social issues that we fight over daily is because of religion. That is not governing, that is preaching. That is where the line should be drawn. Keep your century old book of immorality to yourself bitches.
