We are a worldwide social network of freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and secular humanists.

I was reading this blog of a guy who claims to be voting for Romney with a heavy heart. I find the guy's reasoning to be defective and his reasons unjustifiable. But if this is the type of reasoning people have for voting Romney, then there really is a big problem.

I am not voting for Romney/Ryan because of jobs, government doesn’t create them.  I am not voting for them because I think they have all of the answers.  I am not voting for them because I support all of their positions, or because I even really like them.  I am voting for them because I believe that Romney will stand with Israel, which for the time being I see as a necessity.  And I am voting for them because I believe they will at least stop going down the path toward the destruction of this nation.  I don’t know if they will turn around, and begin to go back, but I think they will at least stop.  The current resident of the White House, I know won’t.  It is obvious from everything he has done the past four years, and from his words and deeds before that, that Dinesh D’Souza is right.

Is this is a justification? Why should US of A continue to support Israel a country that has been oppressing the Palestinians for as long as I can remember. What is the justification? Are the Palestinian children lesser beings?

The rest of the blog is filled with such drivel that I am shocked he claims to have a heavy heart! I expected maybe he/she would say he suffers from defective reasoning!

Comparing energy costs between an island and a state that's part of the country is nonsense. Islands don't have the resources. And further stating one is a blue state, and one is a red, only tries to link something that doesn't exist. In the states energy costs are different depending on the area. Resources differ state to state.

I have no desire to see fossil fuels continue to pollute the planet, climate change isn't much fun.

Shell is big in solar research, actually.

@Michel, the argument was to get away from coal, @Onyango Makagutu, R & D research is needed, not manufacturing level research. Most of those epic research plants Obama references in Korea and China are in fact owned in part of wholly by energy sector companies. The moment solar energy is less then 15 cents per kilowatt hour for production(we unlocked how to get more then one electron volt from a single photon) you will see and upswing. I am a skeptic on wind... I predict we will have to rely on steam power(Geo-thermal, solar in north Africa?, coal, nuclear, natural gas) for the next 50 years, till solar efficiency increases. As the productive efficiency of solar increases, less heat will be generated(less expanding and contracting) which means we can use less exotic materials to resist cracks, which will decrease production costs. You really can not rush science and engineering research. You are shooting a bolt action gun in the dark trying to hit a target.

If his[Romney] supporters all reason this way, then we are not making any progress.

@z, I think we need to invest more in renewable sources of energy. In a sense, I think those manufacturers who make solar cells, wind turbines and so on stand to gain more if we were to change to renewable energy sources. So if energy is your trade, that is where you should invest in.

I must admit it seemed ridiculous to me especially his reasons(reason, singular) for voting for Romney; no wonder Romney has somewhat "strong" supporters !!!!

You have to ask, why are we "halting" energy projects.

Comment by zrdm on October 27, 2012 at 3:39pm

@Michel, energy prices are 8 cents per kilowatt hour in Idaho(a red state that uses natural gas and coal power), while in Hawaii(a blue state) environmental regulation demands certain ways of generating electron volts not be used, electricity rates respond to being just shy of 35 cents per kilowatt hour.

Comment by zrdm on October 27, 2012 at 2:16pm

@Michel, energy is my trade, it's my family's trade, the halting of energy projects, has increased domestic energy prices, I am not talking oil, that is largely independent.

@Mattamar - I guess some people are more convertible than others.
Comment by Matttammar on October 27, 2012 at 10:14am

Defective reasoning is too mild an expression to describe this rant! It sounds to me like this feeble minded, not too well read blogger just read a book by the bat-shit crazy Dinesh D’Souza and became a convert.
