We are a worldwide social network of freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and secular humanists.

The kid had a fever of 101.2 an hour ago, after having a transfusion this afternoon. We have to call the on duty doctor whenever it's over 100.5, if his white blood cell count is down, which it is. It's like zero now. So Char and Dev just left to go back to the hospital. I was really hoping for a weekend with the family at home. Is that so selfish?

This is always scary. Basically what happened to Hitch is that he succumbed to pneumonia because the cancer treatment destroyed all resistance. This is Devin's 6th trip to the hospital in as many weeks. I hope he can get a break.

Great to hear that, Bill!

I'm trying to get him out of bed right now. He had a pretty good day, yesterday. I hope he feels good today too!

I'll definitely read "snow crash".

I just wanted to add thatwhen I was in hospital in my twenties I was fed for a while by a tube going from my nose through to the oesophagus;I was hooked on plenty of tubes; so you shouln't worry about that I think...

That's good to know, Michel. I'll try not to worry about the tube. One less thing, right?

I will get that book, sounds really entertaining!

Snow Crash - by Neil Stephenson - is an excellent book!

I spent 2 months on a tube while my new immune system was 'adopting' me. It was very cool. I did not have to worry about the weird effects hyper-bland hospital food had on me - so devastating, I was really glad to quit food altogether.

It was a form of nutrient I could keep, it helped my recovery considerably.

I really wish little Devin gets better soon and that he will be with you over the Yule time. You have my best thoughts...

The tube may actually help. I know it's not an easy thing to think about, but it has helped tremendously with many cancer patients, they get stronger and they end up feeling better, they can get the nutrients they need that way. I hope he fees better and can home soon!! I do understand Dev's mom wanting to stay by him all the time.

Thanks, all.

I'm sitting with Devin while he is getting a transfusion of platelets. He's sleeping now, so I can play on the internet for a bit. He was actually asking to have an NG tube installed because he is having such a hard time eating. So far we haven't done that yet, but may have to. Char went home to take care of some stuff and will be back this evening. She insists on staying every night here, claims "Mom's prerogative." I relieve her when she'll let me, but only a few times has that happened overnight.

I've been reading aloud to him a book called "Snow Crash," which we are both enjoying very much.

No, you're not selfish...and your kid is fighter he's gonna fight and beat that cancer..

There are some foods that help boosting the immune system to fight cancer.

take a look at this "Raw Food Treatment For Cancer"
