We are a worldwide social network of freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and secular humanists.

'Mummy, can you spray my face white?'-

Isn't this the saddest story you've heard in a long time.

How can a society that call's itself civilised make a child feel like that? When are we going to reach that time when the colour of a child's skin won't matter.

Cute kitties, my dog is just a black blob on photos but basically she's small and a poodle mix.

Yeah that makes it an issue Stephen. My husband's brother is an actor sometimes, & he no longer speaks like the rest of us, has his nose in the air, looks at all of us with distain, & doesn't speak to my husband or their youngest brother. He's alienated most of the family, can't maintain a relationship, & has been divorced twice.

Trouble is Mrs.B. They are still very influential many of our politicians and even more of our film actors went to Eton.

Half of Britain's best actors privately educated

I'm 5 ft. or 1.52 meters.

And a hell of a lot more preferable to posh, Stephen.

I was tall fare haired when I was young, so no hardship there but when I went to a school in a posh area once I opened my mouth and out came a cockney accent the kids laughed equating my accent with being backward. The cockneys you saw on TV were either clowns or crooks. I became proud of my accent and working class heritage.

Many small towns here are like that....if you weren't born into it, you'll never fit. You will be treated courteously in most cases but you'll always be the outsider. There are logging towns, mining, towns, & fishing towns, etc. We lived in a logging town when we first married, but we were always the city people.

As for myself, I'm no actress so I don't put it on for anyone, & I'm long past caring what people think of me. We're both loners, & prefer it that way. In many cases, our cats are much nicer people anyway.

Considering that the average height of women in Britain is 5" 5' last I heard and the majority are overweight the tall willowy look is something that's so rare, as to be unrealistic to show so many women in the media looking like that.

I moved when I was growing up to here and the culture is very different, I didn't fit in at school either, being religious and having learning difficulties didn't help. Girls aren't treated the same, and they don't treat each other the same as I was used to. I don't look local enough, speak local or behave local. I don't know what you call that, it's not racism, more like cultural rejection.

My reaction to this has been to actively keep my accent and the rest besides religion, which was unrelated teenage religious questioning.

How do you know that woman didn't have sunscreen on the baby? You need to mind your own business Chris.

Oh yes, the beauty industry.....we're all supposed to be tall & very slender. I happen to be a short (5 ft), & hefty freckly dark redhead. Nothing is going to make me fit that tall willowy pattern!

Rick Hansen, Man In Motion, who wheeled around the world in his chair is from here, & has made a huge difference for wheelchair accessibility in this town. He has also expanded that to many other towns, & cities, but more needs to be done of course. We happen to drive mobility scooters, & there are places that are just too tight for us to get into with them, so we either have to try struggling with walking some, or not go there at all.

I never fit in at school, or the neighbourhood because I was the oddball moron kid. I never fit in at church because I had the working mother & that was NOT done for moron women back then, as well as having a non-moron father at the time......he got baptized when I was 16, & I quit church at 17. I was an only kid, & morons are supposed to have huge families, but mother had 9 miscarriages, after managing to have me. I didn't even fit in there as they were cold unloving parents, & I was mostly ignored unless I broke some damn rule or other. I got blamed for many things, including not fitting in with the other kids!!! SHEESH!!!!!
