PLAYING THE CARDS WE'RE DEALT Part 3

Traumatic transition

In my mid-twenties, coming back, a punk, from England, I moved around in Canada a lot, working in the cities I happened to be in at the time.  I lived in Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver, Quebec and, when I got fed up (especially from jobs) I moved.

I was also partying a lot which when I look back on it, was a naughty seduction game I had got really good at.  Maybe, what I wanted to do was overcoming my lack of confidence...  Well, it can be…

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper says "Islamicism biggest threat to Canada" & Tony Blair says "Iran is our Real Enemy"

It is refreshing to see that our northern border ally has too come to see the true threat facing humanity in the 21st century. It is also refreshing to see the visionary and bold former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom taking a clear stance against the illegal regime of the Islamic Republic - especially since he has strong influence with the Quartet - I am feeling more and more confident that the international community will soon stand more firmly with the Syrian people…

Science at Atheist Universe

There are way too many interesting discussions posted in our site this week. If I were to honor them all, this blog would end up being too long to be viable. So if I missed anything, remember you can check out all our many science-related groups by going to the tab Groups, under Science.

The Darnedest Things Do Happen

From the Darnedest things do happen department:

▲ Houston car mechanic Edgar Garfield Gibbons, 41, returned to the U.S. in March after nine months in jail in Georgetown, Guyana, to which country he had been mistakenly deported when he was confused with a New Jersey man of the same name.

▲ Las Vegas police…

First principle... life after death.

I have so many around me who think there is life after death.  That seems to be the first principle that keeps me from even beginning to believe in any of the rest of religion.  I am not interested in proving it doesn't happen, I am going to start asking for and questioning any evidence believers have for me.  I haven't tried this seriously yet, I've been teasing a ghost hunter at work some, he hears things and claims to have EVPs recorded.  But it is time to get serious.

PLAYING THE CARDS WE' VE BEEN DEALT Part 2

In my teen I rebelled: I started to smoke, cigarettes and dope. And also, I discovered alcohol.  This was when I was about 13th yrs old, alcohol definitely agreed with me and I started going downtown Québec, like on the way of becoming a bar fly and appeared to be quite popular (obviously I looked older than my age).

But, at 14, my mother put her foot down .  Since everyone (and her) in the family believed I was the Big Problem, they sent me to boarding school (which was only…

Is there in truth no beauty?

Ever since I was a small child I have always been asking questions. I have always been interested in the reasons behind things, the truth of the matter if you will. This of course led to some rather uncomfortable confrontations in catholic school. Inevitably this evolved to the usual curiosity that most children have, although I suspect most children didn't try to disassemble a…

PLAYING THE HAND WE'VE BEEN DEALT (Part 1)

THE BEGINNING

My parents placed intelligence above all else. So, at 5yrs old, I was in primary school. When I was 6yrs old, I combined 2nd and 3rd grade to get to 4th elementary. But, there was a toll to be borned upon:  always being the smallest, the youngest and being lousy at group sports.

I started reading at 5yrs old and have carried on reading for my whole life.  When I was 5, I read at night with the little light that filtered trough the slightly open…

In Your Head

Conservatives continue to frame talking points out of, well, nothing.

I was in a quick weird conversation where I have family members all yelling that forty some percent of the U.S. populace doesn't pay taxes. Okay, and?

And nothing. Nothing at all. I think it's one of those things that you just shout out, and that's it. Is it…
