How Does the Right Muster So Much Rage Against the Poor

The industrial revolution that was shaping itself in the Victorian age saw the enterprising, but also the unscrupulous, take advantage of the underprivileged, the resourceless, the ignorant, the unprotected — in a word, the unfit.— Immanuel Velikovsky, in his Mankind in AmnesiaWhile precinct walking prior to an election, I heard some of that rage from lower class white folks who had recently escaped poverty. I understood it as one way to keep themselves from falling back into poverty.See More

The Big Bang Doesn't Deserve Your Faith. It Also Doesn't Deserve Your Tax Money

I once heard a Unitarian minister say Unitarianism is for people who haven't kicked the church habit. The Big Bang is for people who haven't kicked the faith habit. It has preachers. They make claims. They spend billions of taxpayers' money looking for evidence and publish press releases claiming to have found it. The only peer reviews their claims get are by their fellow preachers. And they have their faithful. These faithful have yet to kick their faith habit. If there is a faith gene I'm one of…See More

What brought you to Atheist Universe?
A chat with a friend who visits here. There was little activity then but by searching the discussions I found there had been much activity in the past.
Re the above "Tradition at Birth" question. At birth mine was none. Partway through first grade my dad put me into a Catholic school, and saying my tradition want to hell understates it by ten raised to the millionth power. They indoctrinated me so well that quitting required some trauma.

Yes i did say that and its true. Because it focuses on the study of nature. again and again we are told in my religion to look around and discover, travel, gain knowledge, have good physical strength.. in my religion No one says that you have to worship God.You just have to believe that he exists.. I cant give more details because of the rules of this page. But its your choice what you want to do in life no one can make you believe or make you follow what is uncomfortable to you.
