" Randall a five hour game of Baseball is nothing. Come to England in the summer and watch a Cricket test match which can last for five days. I quite like Baseball but I don't like Cricket I love it, as the song goes."

Quiz: Name the 3 U.S. vice presidents that were from Indiana.

You might have guessed two fairly recent ones. The third is rather obscure: Schuyler Colfax from South Bend, VP to U.S. Grant (1869-1873).

I just completed reading a biography of Colfax, written by Willard H. Smith in 1951 (no relation to me). Before becoming vice president, he was Speaker of the House of Representatives. Here's an interesting tidbit from the book (and reason for the blog title).

Thanksgiving Musings

Posted on November 27, 2020 at 8:22am 0 Comments

I sometimes question my sanity. In this case, was I crazy to go to a Thanksgiving gathering where there were 18 adults and 8 children in attendance? I was the only one to wear a mask--no guarantee to avoid Covid 19. I ate with the mask off of course.

The host (my son-in-law's father) is a preacher, so, of course, he had to give a prayer (blessing) with everybody holding hands. I quietly escaped the room feigning a bathroom "emergency". I have no idea what was in the prayer. Now for…

Mini trip

Since my Road Scholar trip to England was cancelled, Plan B called for a "vacation" to visit my sister in Edinburg, Virginia. I just returned.

From Indiana, I drove south of Cincinnati to Big Bone Lick State Park to see where pre-historic mammal fossils have been found. They got trapped in the salt lick mud. There wasn't much to see, but it was interesting.

I drove east to Red River Gorge area in Kentucky and hiked up to to see a natural bridge. Pretty neat. The next day, I…
