I've had to start over a few times way back when, so from then on, I wrote down all passwords into a little booklet that I keep right beside the laptop. Much easier.

As for remembering my passwords, I try to note them down on my phones Google Docs. At least that way even if I lose or break my laptop I can open it from any computer or phone.

I have my passwords written in a little booklet. Remembering different passwords for different sites is too hard to trust to memory.
