Have you ever wondered how the statements "You get 50% of your genes from your father and 50% from your mother" and "We share 98% of our genes with chimpanzees" can both be true? If all you did was high school biology, you might.

(Okay, I'm out of date. When I did high school biology, we had 24 pair of chromosomes. When I got to university and did biology again, we'd lost a pair. Maybe today's high school biology is better.)


Never mind: this guy's site is absolutely wonderful. Every entry is fascinating.
