Locke and Hume. the staple of university philosophy of science. Kant sorted it out though he was not the first. that was in Vedic India. But he finally got it when he postulated that it is our brains which syphon-filter out of the totality of the universe that which is necessary for our survival. -there was more but the gist was if we perceived the lot we'd see a mess. wouldn't see our dinner on the table. so evolution has tailor made our perception to allow our survival. of course consciousness is the great mystery of them all. which must be used or we go stupid and the world sure has enough evidence of that.

Locke is one of the easier philosophers to read, some are just too confusing
