For anyone still in the dark about Bradley Manning.

Bradley Manning's still a Good ol' Girl.

I was brought up catholic, went to christian schools [all schools here even government run schools are associated with some church] and my deconversion was influenced to a great extent by a muslim friend[ he is still a muslim] who questioned many of the teachings of the catholic church and since I couldn't explain them I had to find out and I ended up Atheist. If I was ever Agnostic, it must have been for a very short time.

The rest of the story to my atheism is here. I wrote it sometime last year.

Fortunately, it was only a very short period of time in my transition from faith to freedom where I found myself feeling "insecure" and "lost" without a guiding hand to direct my life...then I realized it had be "me" all along that I was relying on to find purpose in my life. :-)

@Rose - That is essentially it!

But the idea of creating one's purpose is not an easy one to adopt. It usually requires a re-definition of 'purpose' and a reassessment of 'self.' None of which you'll undergo if "all's fine with your life."

I'm very glad you had a partner to help you go through this =)

Another interesting thing for me is how different my perspective on life is now. I create my own purpose for living instead of looking to an imaginary god to direct me.

Living for life instead of death is freedom. =)

I began my walk out of the Christian faith about three years ago, after being a Christian for nearly twenty eight years. It all started with giving myself the freedom to ask questions and truthfully seek their answers. Fortunately my husband was in the same place as I was, so together we talked ourselves out of our religion. A few months after my search began I started a blog which has become a monthly journal of my journey to free-thinking. When I began my blog I never dreamed I would one day call myself a non-theist...free-thought sure does feel good.

Personally I have not had any real problems with other people just because I do not believe in an all powerful God. I come to that conclusion quite a few years ago when I was much younger because there was to many contradictions in the book and when it was shown that some of the myths in it came from the Sumerian tale of the Gilgamesh! Don't worry I am not phased either to take on the clergy either done it quite a few times in my life!

Growing up the only time a pray was said at the table was on Christmas day when Mum said grace.

There is a myth among christian society that atheists are devil worshipers.

I was raised in an irreligious home. Meaning, religion was a complete non-issue. I don't ever remember going to church or praying at the dinner table.
