It doesn't get the same press as Hadrian's Wall mainly because there's so little still extent. Hadrian's Wall was built primarily of stone whereas the Antonine Wall was mostly turf and wood.

I've seen a couple of tv programs about Hadrian's but have not heard of the other one.

Yes as a teenager whilst on holiday in Scotland I walked a couple of miles of Hadrian's wall but I haven't seen the Antonine wall.

Comment by Mrs.B on May 23, 2020 at 1:45am

Have you seen them yourself?

1066 everybody remembers that date as the time of the Battle of Hastings when William the Conqueror defeated King Harold the last Anglo-Saxon King which to my mind was a catastrophe

And we in England very nearly ended up speaking Norman French. It was the ordinary English that carried on speaking old English instead of the aristocratic Norman. But even till this day laws passed by Parliament are written in Norman French.

"
La Reyne le veult ("The Queen wills it") or Le Roy le veult ("The King wills it") is a Norman French phrase used in the Parliament of the United Kingdom to signify that a public bill (including a private member's bill) has received royal assent from the monarch of the United Kingdom."
