When I was 10 or 12, our family stopped practicing religion, so I was never really what you'd call pious. But it took me almost 50 years to shake up the last remaining shreds of superstitious belief in a vague divinity or in the possibility of an afterlife.

These notions are deeply embedded =(

@Hope, I wouldnt go so far to call my parents moderate, somewhere in the middle ground. Even today I have a very strong grasp on Christian holy book(s). Im not quite the christian version of a Hafiz, but Im close enough to hold my ground and win debates without bringing up science or logic. It took me a while to recover, it was like walking on broken glass for me.

I was a religious person raised by religious -but moderate- parents.. I think that people who've been religious need a lot of time to heal..
