Scientists discover ancient Mayan city hidden under Guatemalan jungle

Aerial laser mapping detects thousands of hidden structures in Peten region, suggesting its population was millions more than previously thought

This digital 3D image provided by Guatemala’s Mayan Heritage and Nature Foundation shows a depiction of the Mayan archaeological site at Tikal in Guatemala created using LiDAR aerial mapping technology.

Researchers using a high-tech aerial mapping technique have found tens of thousands of previously undetected Mayan houses, buildings, defence works and pyramids in the dense jungle of Guatemala’s Peten region, suggesting that millions of more people lived there than previously thought.

This Mass Grave May Belong to 'Great Viking Army'
Bones are yielding new clues about the massive, mysterious Viking forces that invaded England.

For years, archaeologists were stumped. What happened to the Great Viking Army, a massive force that seized great swaths of England in the 9th century but left barely a trace?

Archaeologists now report that a mass grave in England may contain nearly 300 Viking warriors—the only remains of the Great Viking Army’s warriors ever found.
Archaeologists first uncovered the burial site in the 1980s, in Derbyshire, England, and thought it might contain remains from the Great Viking Army, also known the Great Heathen Army. But there was one problem—radiocarbon dating of the site revealed that the remains were too old to be Viking invaders.
The army was thought to have spent winters in Derbyshire from around 873 A.D. to 874 A.D, but initial analysis of the skeletons resulted in dates from the 7th and 8th centuries.

We must never ever forget what the Nazi's did. We have to fight fascism always.

"I survived two concentration camps" 93-year-old Eva Behar was taken to Auschwitz from her home in Romania in 1944. What can we learn from her experiences?

How Reformation-Era Churches Used Witch Hunts to Gain More Followers

The Catholic and Protestant churches promoted themselves by persecuting witches.

The Salem witch trials of the 1690s have an iconic place in American lore. But before the Salem witch hunt, there was the “Great Hunt”: a larger, more prolonged European phenomenon between 1560 and 1630 that led to 80,000 accusations and 40,000 deaths

Why’d it happen? Well, as with the Salem witch trials, there are a lot of theories. In the past, scholars have suggested that bad weather, decreased income, and weak government could have contributed to the witch trial period in Europe. But according to a new theory, these trials were a way for Catholic and Protestant churches to compete with each other for followers.

Discoveries from dawn of the Cycladic Bronze Age on remote Greek Island
Excavations by the University of Cambridge on the island of Keros, an uninhabited Greek island in the Cyclades southeast of Naxo has discovered a complex series of monumental structures and technological sophistication previously unknown.

Excavations by the University of Cambridge on the island of Keros, an uninhabited Greek island in the Cyclades southeast of Naxo has discovered a complex series of monumental structures and technological sophistication previously unknown.
Archaeologists have been exploring the Keros settlement of Dhaskalio, located on a promontory during the Bronze Age that presently sits on a tiny islet due to sea level changes.
Keros was known for ritual activities dating from 4,500 years ago, but the latest discoveries at Dhaskalio reveals that the promontory was almost entirely covered by monumental structures using imported stone from Naxos.
