Well, tomorrow starts the vegan lifestyle. I'm preparing for hunger. =)
I think I've put on 5 pounds eating all the damn dairy and eggs I could handle this last week. Pizza after pizza, (I really like pizza).
Trying to put a shopping list together to ease into the new vegan status. Any ideas out there?
I have dairy substitutes picked out for milk and yogurt. I love cream in my coffee, guess I'll try a soy creamer. Picking up Natural Balance as a butter replacement.
The rest of my list comprises the obvious; vegetables, fruits, legumes, grains and tofu.
Again, if there was something that helped you when you went vegan, let me know.
"They were not made for humans"
That is an interesting point, was thinking of getting rid of honey as well and using agave syrup. The pricing is a bit higher on the agave; not sure what to do with that.
The only time I use honey is in my smoothies, and once in a great while for desert. I thought there were benefits to using local honey, something to do with allergies.
Whatever, didn't buy either during my way too long shopping trip to prepare for going vegan. Hard to find the products I was looking for around the local area.
I have used tempeh before and have had mixed results. Very nutty flavored, so needs a good strong flavor to make it meat like. I've made very good barbecued tempeh sandwiches before, but other dishes didn't come out as good. Try, try again.
I've thought of using refried beans and avocados as a cheese substitute, they make foods rich. I've made plenty of vegetarian breakfasts using beans instead of cheese, unfortunately it did contain eggs. But I will make breakfast burritos somehow, already thinking of trying to scramble tofu. =)
That recipe looks good, will have to try.
Yeah, we have a lot of room to do so. When I bought into the complex, there were going to be 23 units, then came the crash, now we're only going to have 13. Maybe I will check into that, even though I was going to lay off the eggs for awhile as well as dairy.
But a community garden is an awesome idea. Usually I just walk to the farmers market every weekend when the veggies start being harvested, (usually greens first), but would be fun to have our own. I will introduce that idea to the neighbors. Most would be fine with it, but we have the couple of crazies that everyone has that are always a problem. =)
