The big riot that finally ended the unjust and hateful poll tax where it didn't matter if you were rich or poor everybody paid the same.

The biggest riot played out right in front of Canada House on Trafalgar Square.

Only time will tell I guess.

It takes so much to rouse the British people but this is one thing I'm sure would turn the people violent. Like the poll tax riots before now

Comment by Mrs.B on February 16, 2020 at 18:52

Yes, but the people tend to be ignored so many times.

Comment by Stephen on February 16, 2020 at 18:47

Yeah, you are right. The Tories would just love to destroy the NHS but I'm hopeful that the British people would resist any move to weaken or privatise our health service.

Comment by Mrs.B on February 16, 2020 at 18:34

I sure hope you don't get screwed over.

One of my early heroes in the Labour Party and movement was Aneurin Bevan one of the founders of the NHS.

I fell upon this story of one man's attempts to save and keep open the many closed and derelict Welsh Chapels dotted all over the former mining valley's of Wales. Even though many would expect me to be glad that those chapels were no longer needed for their original use, and of course I am, but it still saddens me that these buildings were not deemed important enough to save, because, the chapels were often in at the birth of the Labour movement and Party. But because of their working-class history, the elites don't care if they survive or not.

One man’s mission

In a chapel in the heart of the south Wales valleys, a coffee morning is in full flow. It is a small affair - just a handful of retired men exalting the glory days when the mines were still open. Today, like most weeks, numbers are relatively low. But for the minister who has organised it, the Reverend Robert Stivey, it is still something of a triumph.
Just a year ago, this chapel - the Calfaria Calvinistic Methodist Chapel in Porth - was shut, its future uncertain.

PS. Don't worry folks, I've not gone soft on religion. Hahaha
