Good information. I can use all the help available! Thanks for sharing the video, Joan.
Are you equating adding fertilizer with planting land mines? Granted that's not necessarily helpful to soil microbes, but can't soil be revived in a few years with lots of organic matter added?
No, how using chemical fertilizer to increase plant growth without regard for the impact such practices those products have on micro-organisms. Mining the soil is like mining for coal using practices that may cause deforestation and release toxic amounts of minerals and heavy metals into the soil and water, or like drilling for oil that may cause threats to acquifers, drinking water, fish, and water life.
Tilling the soil and using chemical fertilizes kill valuable elements of soil. Using them kills microorganisms necessary for production of healthy food. It is easy to turn soil into dirt and important to turn dirt into soil.
Modern chemical-dependent farming methods:
* Pollute groundwater
* Damage soil friability
* Destroy micro-organisms
Thanks for the clarification!
