We are a worldwide social network of freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and secular humanists.

"Activist finds silence on genital mutilation case depressing, predictable"

I agree with Ayaan Hirsi Ali. The left has built a movement simply to oppose Trump and conservatives. When it comes to issues that require serious concerns over human rights, such as the female genital mutilation case in Michigan, they seem to be eerily silent.

I agree that the left has many shortcomings on the subject of FGM [female genital mutilation] but the last thing the left should do is to listen to the Conservative right. They don't care a jot for the plight of Muslim woman.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Brigitte Gabriel may think differently. The right have given them more of a speaking platform than the left have.

If they have given Ayaan Hirsi Ali a platform they are only doing it for cynical reasons.

Ms. Hirsi Ali States she is of the left and a Liberal. Brigitte Gabriel is a conservative who hates everyone who isn't Christian.  Hirsi Ali is an Atheist but Ms.Gabriel is a Maronite Christian whos whole family hates Muslims.

ACT! for America

Her organization, ACT! for America, has been described by the New York Times as drawing "on three rather religious and partisan streams in American politics: evangelical Christian conservatives, hard-line defenders of Israel (both Jews and Christians) and Tea Party Republicans."[2] According to the Washington Post, the organization "touted as its “first accomplishment” its 2008 campaign to shut down a Minnesota Islamic school."[20] The Southern Poverty Law Center has the described Act for America as "the largest grassroots anti-Muslim group in the country,"[21][22] and the Council on American-Islamic Relations has described it as "one of the main sources of growing anti-Muslim bigotry in our nation".[23] According to the Guardian, the organization has been "widely identified as anti-Muslim".[23]

Left Right platform. What news feeds do you read, watch, and listen to?

I don't know who Grigette Gabriel is, but reading Stephen's references about her she sounds islomophobic.

I read one or two of Ayaan Hirshi Alli's books.  What left right platform are you reffering to?

Are you from a Muslum region?

Unfortunately as Atheists I guess we have to look at the religious divide.

I myself, as someone of the left have no problem with Muslim people.

I have difficulty's with the tenets of  Islam as I do with any religion. The list of people the Republicans hate is enormous, anyone who isn't Christian or American.

"If they have given Ayaan Hirsi Ali a platform they are only doing it for cynical reasons." I do not agree with this at all.

As a woman atheist Republican, I find the advancement of Islam concerning. I am appalled the left would not give a platform to Ayaan Hirsi Ali, and even threaten her and chase her away from speaking. I thought the left was about "civil rights" but it turns out that they are leveling the playing field with traditional religious Republicans.

Instead US leftists put Linda Sarsour of Women's March on a pedestal, a Muslim woman who has played a role in NY public schools having the day off to acknowledge Muslim holidays (separation of church and state?) and has stated that she would like to take Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Brigitte Gabriel's "private parts" away. This is anti-women's rights and this is the left.

Its not all the left that's acting in this way, and if you have been reading my posts you would have seen that I a leftist have been talking about this issue for quite some time. You have to make the distinction between the real left and the upper middle class regressive left in some American colleges. Sarsour isn't of the left she is just using these fools.

Vice versa, not all Republicans act in the manner you perceive.

That must wait to be seen, Republicans are in power at the moment, so we will see.

Who's "They?"

The left?

My understanding is "The Left" is for womens rights and expression.

Women should have rights for their own bodies.
