I have been a quote collector and quote monger for at least as long as I have been an atheist, and likely much longer. There is a fascination in me of those who are sufficiently skilled in language that they structure words into concepts and ideas and proposed actions which grab my attention and interest, whether it is John F. Kennedy's unabashed statement: "We choose to go to the moon and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard," Robert A. Heinlein's blunt expression: "If you've got the truth, you can demonstrate it. Talking doesn't prove it. SHOW people," or Captain Kirk's subtle yet important tactical observation, having encountered and been challenged by the dauntingly huge First Federation vessel: "Not chess, Mr. Spock ... Poker!"
Certainly, atheism has had its share of skilled spokespeople, whose words have inspired and driven us, whether it was Madalyn Murray O'Hair, saying: "An Atheist believes that a hospital should be built instead of a church," or Sam Harris, who noted that: "The only problem with Islamic fundamentalism are the fundamentals of Islam," or Aron Ra's far more succinct: "If you can't SHOW it, you don't KNOW it."
Consciously or unconsciously, I suspect all of us have learned and grown from such words and many others, becoming stronger and more mature, not just in our atheism but in ourselves, having heard such words as these, and that is the point of this group: not to just deal in quotes which praise and promote atheism but which advance the cause of knowledge, self-understanding and self-ownership. Each of us have likely heard someone say something and think, "Wow!" and resonated to the significance of what they heard.
That's what I want to do here: share, learn, and grow, not just from THEIR words, but our own.

Loren, Mark Twain had a few words about intelligence and skill being completely unrewarded and ignored in the paradoxical Christian heaven which people invented for themselves.

Davy, we might need to consciously reinvent the "given" of "human nature" in order to have that "society without leaders" be a free, thriving partnership system where the power that's sought and valued is not "power over" others, but "power with" and "power to".

I concur with what you say Loren.
I like what Sonya expressed and the stitching of that new garment begins with the very structure of all societies to-day which is based on Inequality that creates tensions within it, with this pandemic is highlighting the flaws within but no-one and I mean no-one is taking any real notice because of the 10,000 year brain washing that has been perpetuated throughout all those years. It basically states there is only one viable structure of Society and those that are perpetuating it are those that on the top of the pecking order.

Just say we are back still in the days when technology was relative low and our people sent a ship out to see what they could see and upon the their return they read in the captains journal that they had found another society of people but they don't have leaders.
How would you politically call that society?

Onyango. Many of the friends of Boris and his cabinet have become enormously richer through getting contracts during the pandemic. The normal rules for outsourcing contracts have been suspended for the duration. Many of the contracts were for consultancy and entailed no outlay.

Joan, I think I agree with Sonya Taylor. But I am afraid that opportunity flew away long ago. Many people have become rich off covid when majority were losing jobs and livelihoods.

This is an idea I came up with a long time ago: that each of us has our own natural base state, and that any effort to globalize even some elements of that state can result in problems and even conflicts. Yet this is what religion does, time and time again, too often with contentious results.
