We are a worldwide social network of freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and secular humanists.

Republicanism making an official declaration that they're going to give up on policies due to the inconvenience and just blanket-endorse whatever Dear Leader both has done and might do is indistinguishable from the cruelest political satire.

"What?", you say? Recently the Republican Party's 2020 platform was their 2016 platform.

The party had still been using the 2016 party platform before the decision was made to just nix the idea of having policy stances altogether. That led to the unfortunate spectacle of the Republican Party's own platform bashing the lawlessness of the "current administration" in extremel....

Fascism: Republicans declare their only policy stance to be 'strong...

It only stands to reason ... that the party would choose to abandon policy stances to instead declare that they are now officially for Whatever Donald Trump Says On Any Given Day.

From now on, it is resolved that whatever the rapist, international extortionist, and tax cheat determines to be his next and newest policy decision, we unanimously agree that we think that too. And if it involves a pool boy, we're going to support that too.

Atheist Nexus used to have a group to share cases where reality is indistinguishable from satire.

The Republican party has now devolved down to the point where, more than anything else, they resemble the parents of Veruca Salt, giving in to their spoiled child's every wish and whim, because lost control of their progeny and can no longer be the necessary authority figures needed.  Then, too, Trump really doesn't recognize any authority other than his own, so it's unlikely that the GOP leadership could have brought him under any form of control to begin with.

What will be most intriguing to see is when/if Trump loses in November, what his behavior will be between November 4th and January 20th, 2021, and even more so after the inauguration, whereupon he will become subject to the authority of federal and state judicial systems!  I fully expect to see him arrested at minimum, treated as an extreme flight risk, and subjected to the ignominy of an ankle bracelet to track his movements.  As I have said multiple times, I expect the rest of his life to be spent in courtrooms and PRISON.  Exactly how he will react when control over his own life is LOST will be most interesting, indeed.

I expect him to attempt a coup. Losing that may signal the end of the Republican party. If he wins, it will signal the end of any remaining shreds of democracy, and acceleration of Climate Catastrophe. We live in interesting times. While his coup means civil war, its failure could lead to dismantling of structural racism and blatant corporate control/corruption of government.

Sadly but entirely possible (in that Trump would try such a thing).  In terms of his likely success?  Nope.  The military would never back him, never mind Congressional Democrats and a majority of the general public would be aghast at such an attempt.  If Trump really wants to bring a shitstorm down on himself, this is the direction he would go in.  His ego would probably tell him that he'd get away with it.

But his ego and reality have very damned little to do with each other ... and his undoing would probably mark a cataclysmic alteration of himself and his ability to function coherently (and please note: I'm a retired engineer, not a psychologist).  Expect a psychotic break of terrible proportions at minimum ... and the end of Donald Trump as we know him.

Not just a psychotic break of Trump personally, but collective madness among his cult followers.
