Indiana to become FIRST state to defund it's main defense against abortions...

After running Indiana into massive debt, and creating zero jobs, Gov Mitch Daniels of Indiana is now trying to pander to his base (who are up in arms because he offered a truce on social issues earlier) by making

INDIANA

become the

~~~FIRST~~~
and ~only~
state to COMPLETELY
DEFUND
Planned Parenthood,
which is major supplier of both birth control + education {the only proven things that reduce abortions, btw}
and women's health care in our state.
Also in the bill, Daniels further restricts abortions, by making all abortions past 20th week "illegal" in Indiana, unless mom's life in danger.  (worth noting, many of later abortions are performed on children, who either didn't realize or were too scared to announce they were pregnant.)
AND IN RELATED NEWS--------------VOTE ON MAY 3RD!!!
 VOTE ON MAY 3RD!!  Yes, there *is* an election,
 in Indiana,
on MAY 3RD!!!!
(VOTE, OR SHUT UP)
This is outrageous.  Are these people really so dense that they don't realize planned parenthood's main goal is to prevent unwanted pregnancies, thereby reducing the need for even considering an abortion.  It's right there in the name.
I KNOW!! CAN YOU BEEEELIEVE THIS???  i am just aghast...
It is going against their urge to reduce abortions, PP is the ONE thing PROVEN to reduce a woman or girl's chances of having an unwanted pregnancy, by providing both education, and affordable accessible birth control.
(also, birth control, in our state, is sometimes refused to single women, by either doctor or pharmacist!!  in 2011 USA?? what?)
plus, defunding PP is like (as bill mahar says) removing the piece of parsley off the plate, the main expenditures are still there, untouched.  Defunding PP in NO WAY at all helps the Indiana budget, at all.
 Mitch is just doing this to throw red meat to his base, to walk back an earlier remark on "having truce on social issues"....which was actually a sensible remark, but, it sent the base reeling...
//22,000 ordinary people in Indiana just lost access to the affordable, preventative health care that they were getting so Mitch Daniels can call himself the “most pro-life governor in America”.//
also, only 3% of Planned Parenthood does, is abortions.
THE OTHER 97% OF PLANNED PARENTHOOD SERVICES ARE
providing birth control
screening and treating STDs
PAP smears--screening for the only entirely curable cancer IF it is caught early
and treating other health related issues.
Most of their clients are low income people.  Just what a low income gal needs, is, no way to get affordable, easy to get birth control.....
I know, and I can't understand how anyone could think that defunding them could possibly be a good thing.  I have known many people who have used the services of planned parenthood.  I went there myself when I was young, and pretty much always broke.  And even though these strange people who think planning your pregancies is a bad thing act like PP performs abortions willy-nilly, never once was it ever suggested to me as an alternative to birth control.  I think the people who want it defunded must be the same ones who think it's better to just forbid your child to ever have sex, and then pretend that that will work.  Yep, been working so far, right.  That must be why there are so many pregnant teens in hs.  Sorry, this subject gets me a little worked up.
Speaking of other services they provide, going to PP was also the only time I have received a glucose tolerance test. I am at high risk for diabetes, and I am tested annually using a fasting blood sugar. But PP did a glucose tolerance which measures not just a snapshot of your glucose, but how you metabolize it over time.
Even though I went there for birth control, they made sure I was healthy enough to take the method I had requested. My personal physician doesn't even do that!
And of course, just what we need-more unwanted children. They, and the parent, will be a burden on the economy, and subject to whatever abusive/neglectful life they get because they were unwanted.
One person I complained to this about (who is in politics) tried to defend it by saying the money lost only amounts to a 10th of their budget. So, I wonder how his life style would change if someone came in and took a 10th of his budget away?
I'm a lil lost on the 1/1/th of the budget remark.  Was he saying that Planned Parenthood is 1/10th of the Indiana budget,
or that federal funding is only 1/10th of PP's budget?
PP runs on a shoestring as it is.  And PP is the one thing proven to reduce the need for abortions, by supplying both information and affordable birth control....
makes no sense..
Now the new ridiculous law might cause Indiana to lose ALL it's medicaid funding for entire state? so whaddya think, Ditch MItch will walk this one back, (os it WAS all just posturing!!)
or really let all Indiana's medicaid funding fall through?  place your bets......place your bets......
THIS next article really pissed me off, with Daniels stating (para) ppl can still get birth control, from OTHER places***....if only he knew the cost, to a young poverty stricken woman, of the doctor visit + the meds themselves.  Whereas PP is income based/sliding scale.
 (***and SOME doctors and pharmacists in Indiana will NOT prescribe or fill rx for birth control, period! "for religious reasons"..........and some will not prescribe it for unmarried women, "for religious reasons"....)
//"The state contends there are other options for Medicaid patients seeking care and issued a list of Medicaid providers across the state. However, it is unclear how many of those providers actually offer the same family planning services as Planned Parenthood and whether they are even accepting new Medicaid clients."//
{that makes sense, as i know some docs who take zero medicaid pts, and the docs who DO take on medicaid pts, only carry a certain % of their patients to be on medicaid, not a lot. }
http://www.fox59.com/news/politics/wxin-planned-parenthood-judge-re...
He was saying federal funding is only 1/10th of PP's budget.
