The symbol was the shape of the scaffold or what they ironically called the Tyburn tree. Just another implement of torture the Catholic church takes as its own

I only live a mile from Marble Arch and I've passed the convent many times without noticing it.

Comment by Joan Denoo on August 13, 2020 at 4:18pm

Stephen, perhaps this will help: "Tyburn Convent, 8 Hyde Park Place, Shrine of the Martyrs"

I wonder how the symbol is to be interpreted, a three-legged stool in a circle, perhaps, or the trinity inside of the Roman catholic church?

I also wonder how many people died because of their "catholic" beliefs, i.e. heretics, adulterers, for example;  or by RCC believers?

Comment by Grinning Cat on August 13, 2020 at 3:18pm

Oh, yeah, from that Christian math textbook's homework: "God created people to work." What kind of powerful, knowing, loving god needs his "beloved" creations to suffer and exert themselves? Is it for the pleasure of his pronouncement "In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread"? Maybe that god is a sadist. (That would explain a lot.) Or simply a figment of people's imaginations. (That would explain even more!)

At least "God created people to study math" hints at the truth that humans (and other sapient species) are how the universe understands itself!

Comment by Mrs.B on August 13, 2020 at 2:56pm

I really like that one!

Comment by Grinning Cat on August 13, 2020 at 10:38am

Ugh! As students of logic knows, if you accept a false premise like 1+1+1=1 you can derive anything!

  1. 1+1+1=3 (assumed true)
  2. 1+1+1=1 (assumed true)
  3. Therefore, "1+1+1=1 OR unicorns exist" is true (since the first part is true).
  4. 1+1+1=1 is false (contradicted by #1)
  5. Thus "unicorns exist" is true.

Speaking of which...

You're allowed to believe in a god. You're allowed to believe unicorns live in your shoes for all I care. But the day you start telling me how to wear my shoes so I don't upset the unicorns, I have a problem with you. The day you start involving the unicorns in making decisions for this country, I have a BIG problem with you. ~ Matthew Shultz
