Spud! We hadn't heard from you in a while. Yes, getting older makes it more difficult to do a good garden. It takes a lot of work, but it's worth it. Speaking of apricots, one of my two trees actually produced a few this year. That's only the second time in 40 years! Why? Frost kills the very early blooming blossoms every year. Anyway, keep in touch.

A pity, such a balcony is hardly usable to enjoy your space. You could use it to dry laundry, put up shades or put the garbage bin there, but what else?

Chris the small balconies on my side of the building face south which means that in the winter my rooms stay lovely and warm but in the summer it gets boiling and stifling. The bigger balconies on either side of the building get the sun in the morning or the afternoon but my side gets it all day.

Randy, my old body is so tired that the only thing I've done so far this season is plant 10 strawberry plants.

Randy, I agree about not so adorable.  There are huge numbers of squirrels here.  The neighbors feed them, but not enough to keep them from destroying most of my apricots.  They are cute, but not adorable when I see empty apricot shells all over the place.

But, I know you have it worse.

That looks like a lot of work, Randall! Here only ants, snails, seagulls and a cat...

Chris, at least you don't have rabbits on your deck. I have to use fences--chicken wire and electric--plus coffee cans covering up small vegetable plants (at night), to keep the little buggers out/off of my garden. They're not so adorable when you see a cabbage plant chewed down to the roots.

It is, Stephen. We're on the NW-side of the building, so we have a cool place on warm evenings.

Looks like a nice suntrap Chris.
