Geology

This video of beautiful Iceland, its trails into mountains, views of volcanic activity, the source of thermal power for the island, excellent views of geologic structures and especially of dikes*, and breathtaking scenes from the top of abandoned Hengill Trail.

*"A dike or dyke, in geological usage, is a sheet of rock formed in a fracture of a pre-existing rock body."

It looks like a human-built rock wall following valleys through streams, climbing mountains, and stretching for miles. We witness the forming of a dike in the 2021 volcanic activity in Iceland today.

Davy The two ologies I liked when I was a lad was Geology and Archaeology. You needed to know a little of the first to understand the second.

One of my favourite 'ologies of science, but then I am also like to go rock hounding just trying to find that perfect specimen or a half decent one would have been good. For that you need to understand the geology of where you intend to go hounding. Not that I did that much but any time I could find when having to doing something and there was a chance for a  squizz or quick rummage of a pile of stones that looked interesting. But wherever I happen to go I would be observing the terrain and their geological formations when a cutting was created for the rail/road way.

We also have the Rockies to the east, which are spectacular. Jasper, on the border of BC & Alberta is one of the prettiest places we've ever been to. We honeymooned in Banff, which is also beautiful.

It's Good you have set up this group because geology is just one more nail in the coffin of creationism

I am happy to have you join this group, Stephen, and share some of the wonders of the planet. The "wally" word reminds me of a high school chemistry teacher who stated "wackwoom" when he meant vacuum. I think he was born in a northern European nation.
