Geology

This video of beautiful Iceland, its trails into mountains, views of volcanic activity, the source of thermal power for the island, excellent views of geologic structures and especially of dikes*, and breathtaking scenes from the top of abandoned Hengill Trail.

*"A dike or dyke, in geological usage, is a sheet of rock formed in a fracture of a pre-existing rock body."

It looks like a human-built rock wall following valleys through streams, climbing mountains, and stretching for miles. We witness the forming of a dike in the 2021 volcanic activity in Iceland today.

The outstanding photographs and description of volcanic activity over time provides clarity to the current event in Iceland!

Excellent videography with slow panoramas, interesting views of lava flows as it courses down into the valley, no chatter of commentators that drown out the sounds of hot lava and the voices of observers; I heard, "It's getting too close" several times. I hope observers who get caught in the flow do not expect others to rescue them if they do get too close.

Mrs. B., I am happy to see your comments on this site, You live in a particularly interesting geologic region of the world.

We were able to save some very pretty plants in our unheated greenhouse this year. Michelle moved them to the borders for me and we keep an eye on nighttime freezing temps. I surely would hate to lose those plants after all the time it took to get them into such a pretty state. They include potted roses, ferns hostas, garlic, onions, potatos, and others that I haven' identified yet.

Are you able to save any plants overwinter in your greenhouse?

The ''it'll never happen to me'' attitude.

After watching your amazing video the next in line was this film of the recent eruptions on Iceland. I can understand scientists being there to take measurements and such but why would tourists risk their lives by standing so close to the outflow and eruptions' Crazy.
