Same here, except I had an Atari. The modem was a cradle for the phone handset. You'd dial the number then set it in the cradle after hearing computer tones. My first storage was a cassette recorder. When I would write simplistic programs in basic, would save to tape. Had to mark where the counter was to be able to upload it back to the processor.

I've used computers during all these years. Started at home with a Vic20 and 8 kilobytes on RAM.
