Same here, except I had an Atari. The modem was a cradle for the phone handset. You'd dial the number then set it in the cradle after hearing computer tones. My first storage was a cassette recorder. When I would write simplistic programs in basic, would save to tape. Had to mark where the counter was to be able to upload it back to the processor.
