They wouldn't make the connection, and why would they when for the most part they ignore all reason and logic.

Thanks, Joan! That's a beautiful description of how you move in your big family, and drop out. I can't drop out in a group when I'm the teacher, or at home when Luca talks to me. So I play my active role and keep on organizing, if possible by e-mail. But I'm not complaining about my age. To me there was nothing like the dangers, the insecurity and the subjection of being a child, and I'm very happy to have escaped that.

Joan, what’s best about aging is that it happens only once.

Comment was by Joan Denoo on October 16, 2020 at 2:06pm

Chris B, I "hear" you! I give up on trying to be in a crowd or a group. I hear everything and understand nothing. The words form a cloud that enters both ears and has no place to land in my brain. I smile, move my head up and down, or side to side, nodding as if I comprehend and feel grateful when everyone stops talking and does something.

Aging presents an interesting opportunity to act as a third party observer, watching for, listening to, hearing static in ways that I observed in others as a child and adult, now experiencing as an elder.  The value of journaling is being able to go back and trace my observations at the younger stages of life. I can remember some of the ideas, but not in a dependable way.

Laura tells me I "lie," I tell her I remember differently. She gets mad at me because I "fabricate," I get hurt because I feel disrespected.

Oh! Yes! Aging offers many challenging opportunities to blindly, deafly, painfully go through my day.

On the other hand, aging offers me the opportunity to understand, for the first time, what Grandma said, or dear old Mrs. Robinson said to me more than half a century ago.
