Trump claims Christianity a 'big part' of Israel's deal with UAE

US president claimed protecting Christians in the Middle East would also be a component of future deals signed between Israel and other countries in the region.

Donald Trump has attempted to use the signing of Israel’s historic deal with the United Arab Emirates to bolster support amongst his Evangelical base at home.

Speaking on Thursday night, the US President said: “Christians have been persecuted by some countries in particular in the Middle East. This [the UAE deal] is a big start, It is going to be a strong start, a very powerful start.”

The president also attempted to clarify some of the confusion with regard to any Israeli plans to annex portions of the West Bank.

He said: “Israel has agreed not to do it. More than off the table, they have agreed not to do it.

"I think that very important. I think it was a great concession by Israel, I think it was a smart concession.”

He added, however, that although he could not guarantee what would happen in the future, “right now it is off the table.”

President Trump claimed that protecting Christians in the Middle East would also be a component of future deals that would be signed between Israel and other countries in the region.

He added: “If you look at the way Christians have been treated in some countries, it is beyond disgraceful. If I had information and if I had absolute proof of some of the stories we have heard, which is not easy to get, I would go in and do a number to those countries, like you would not believe.

“As countries come in, the UAE has agreed very strongly to represent us, I think will, very well, with respect to Christianity, because in the Middle East it is not treated well. It is treated horribly and very unfairly,”

He said that Christianity “is a very big part of the overall negotiation.”

On Thursday in Jerusalem, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that as a result of the deal, annexation had been delayed but would remain on the agenda

You must show proof of a completed passenger locator form at the UK border.

This applies to people entering the UK from all countries.

It applies to UK residents and visitors.

You have to fill this form in before entering the UK.

Randall. You can log on to the Gov.Uk website it should explain things and of course, things are changing all the time.

Randall. Yes, it is. And it's just been extended to some over European countries including France. But that's mainly for Brits returning to the UK how it affects visitors I'm not sure. I'll see what I can find out.

Comment by Randall Smith on August 17, 2020 at 7:39am

Stephen, is UK's two week quarantine for visitors still in effect? I have a trip to England planned for October, but won't go if I have to "hold up" for two weeks.

And the second wave is just starting... We're not yet rid of Covid-19, not at all. The Spanish Flu hung around for decennia, and we can expect the same from this virus, I think. So we'd better see the Covid measures like other protection rules - you don't have to like them, but better use them correctly.

Lockdown versus COVID-19: Is the cure worse than the disease?

I don’t know about you, but I’m starting to see an increasing number of articles and posts questioning whether the impact of the lockdown on the UK has had a greater negative impact than the disease itself. I’ve pondered it myself. It’s easy to see why this feeling is growing: the country plunged into recession through businesses ceasing to operate, unemployment rates inevitably soaring, and mental health taking a nosedive due to the restrictions to name but a few effects.
I thought I’d do a bit of digging and reflecting, and share it with you here. If you’re interested.

We see the world through the lens of experience

It’s worth stating as we begin to dig into this that the perception of the cure being worse than the disease is, no doubt, influenced by our personal experiences. As individuals, we are statistically much more likely to have experienced the negative effect of the lockdown itself than the negative effect of us or loved ones contracting COVID-19 and suffering serious illness as a result. Of course, one might argue that’s a sign the lockdown is doing what it intended to do; we’re all locked down, and only a few are affected by the virus. This is no doubt exacerbated by the fact that for many that catch it, it’s not that serious an illness, which just adds to the sense that the cure is worse than the disease. I bet the minority who have experienced a severe impact of the disease on them or loved ones would hold a very definite view on the importance of lockdown. We all see the world through the lens of our experience.

The USA in contrast has over 50,000 cases and 1000 deaths per day.

Canada added four novel coronavirus deaths and 237 newly confirmed cases on Saturday.

Those numbers were incomplete, however, as British Columbia, Alberta, Prince Edward Island and none of the territories reported COVID-19 updates over the weekend.

The country has seen 121,842 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in total. More than 80 per cent of those infected — 108,106 — have recovered.

The U.S. has agreed with Canada and Mexico to extend land border restrictions on non-essential travel into September amid continued fears about the coronavirus pandemic.

“We continue to work with our Canadian and Mexican partners to slow the spread of #COVID19,” acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf said Friday. “Accordingly, we have agreed to extend the limitation of non-essential travel at our shared land ports of entry through September 21.”
