Who can get through a day of the 2016 presidential campaign and not think of this? Here's part of how my mom did it in the late 1930s and the 1940s. I didn't know what she had in mind when she raised us as if there was no such thing as boys' work or…Continue

Nice Comment
I'm embarrassed to say I contribute mightily to global warming in several ways. Rather than heat my house with gas (propane), I burn firewood. That means two things: with the furnace fan running full bore, I use a lot of electricity (rates double in winter), and, secondly, my chimney spews out lots of smoke--not good by adding particulants and CO2 to the atmosphere. Then, there's the use of a chainsaw--more pollution, including noise. Hence, the dilemma.
Beautiful plant and picture, fantastic! Who needs fantasy when we get such things for free?
Here we have a year contract for energy with price fixed on average use, but when the next year contract starts we can expect a big rise. So we use low energy lighting, cook on top instead of using the oven and have got used to lower temperatures at home. And do the laundry at low temperature.
I don't iron, & I will not give up my daily music. As for laundry, I try to combine the loads where I can.
Very charming, Stephen. Do you know the name?
I pay heating/hot water on account every month and usually get something back every year at I often shower at the gym. This winter has been so mild that I don't use much heat, so there should be something even if prices go up. I'm going to have to try and save on electricity though. That might mean doing less laundry and not ironing as much. I do have music in the background all the time I'm at home but that's a pleasure I wouldn't like to do without.
Pretty leaf.
Stephen -- I love it! Instant hummingbirds, just add water!
Heating, & electric will go up I'm sure, but we have equal monthly payments so we don't get sky high bills during winter, & very low ones in summer.
I think all our electricity bills will be going up in April by how much we're not sure. One thing I am sure about is bills in the UK will be higher than many of our neighbours mainly because all of our utility companies were sold off to private companies, my supplier EDF is actually a French state-owned company. How ironic.
I enjoyed the Cockney songs very much, thanks!
And the electricity bill is rising here too - we use as little as possible.
