Brian Keith Dalton, a.k.a. "Mr. Deity," has been taking William Lane Craig to task lately for his lazy and generally not-horribly-thoughtful take on why belief in Yahweh is so essential to him and how wonderful it must all be to have the supposed…Continue

Lately it occurs to me What a long, strange trip it's been. -- The Grateful Dead, "Truckin'" And that "long, strange trip" has gotten positively rocky, particularly in the last 40 years, under the influence of Reagan, both Bushes, and of course,…Continue

Who can get through a day of the 2016 presidential campaign and not think of this? Here's part of how my mom did it in the late 1930s and the 1940s. I didn't know what she had in mind when she raised us as if there was no such thing as boys' work or…Continue

Nice Comment
Sounds good, Ian.
Just come home from a trip. First to England to visit my brother and his family and the to my daughter's for the weekend. Everything went smoothly and I enjoyed myself very much. Tomorrow, back to the old routine but refreshed and rested.
Considering how many atheists, and more recent generations (see, we’re not all alone) of humanists vote conservative in the name of libertarianism . . . and considering the razor’s edge of some of these definitive races . . . it’s at this time of year I’m sometimes glad we’re so few in number.
We get that at New Years Eve and many people here are petitioning against fire works. No success this year.
When I was a kid I adored Nov.5th fireworks night and I never understood it when the older folks among us complained about the noise but now fireworks are being let off weeks before the 5th and of course there's Diwali on the 25th of October. Forgive me if I sound like an old fart but I can't stand the noise now, especially when the modern FWs are so loud.
The right-wing press in the UK is stoopping to new lows at the moment.
We were always told that here, Stephen.
The perfect vaccine doesn't exist yet, particularly as the virus mutates all the time. International travel probably makes things worse too. The official statistics here in DK still show people dying every day, usually because they had severe health problems to begin with. I don't know if there's a solution. Even if society was closed down again the virus would just bounce back in a new form afterwards. Perhaps herd immunity will have to prevail in the end, with updated annual jabs.
I took all my Covid jabs after the promise that we would be protected but now we are being told that the vaccine will only lessen its severity.
