Chris B, you provide such thoughtful and energetic teaching to your pupils. I hope you can get back into that endeavor. I've admired your teaching style all these years and look forward to learning more from you.

We exist at a time and place where royalty and religion have no place or purpose. There is no need for a land-grabbing tyrant or a mind-grabbing dominionist to control and direct our lives.

Individuals born with different talents have not only the rights but the obligations to develop those natural abilities.

Whether they have soft skills such as interpersonal, organization, and leadership skills or technical skills such as research, computer programming, accounting, or writing skills, each can hone their native abilities to the benefit of us all. Perhaps one's nature is in music, art, woodwork, mathematics, mechanical, caregiving, planning, or organizing,  education should exist to advance native abilities and create careers.

The "land grab" of England known as the "Norman Conquest," carried on by William the Conqueror of Normandy, began in 1066 C.E. It was not the first land grab in history, nor was it the last.

The lands of the Americas come to mind with the mention of the term "land grab." The colonization of Africa springs to mind, as well.

What is it about those N. Europeans that gave them the sense of entitlement to whole continents and of many cultures?

What is it about wealth that gives those who have the sense of entitlement to have others do the dirty work for them and either serve as slaves, indentured servants, and wage-workers?

The fight for working families continues today. Unions serve the purpose for which they were founded. CEO and executive compensations skyrocket, while the wage-worker suffers from stagnant wages, layoffs, and unemployment.

A single-wage worker has little or no power. However, by forming coalitions and making demands, they fight for the same rights as the slaves, surfs, and servants in ages past.

They claim the right to working for living wages, access to health care, incomes that support education for the next generation, and the ability to create a decent retirement fund.

Although now is a different time and place, working people claim their right to access resources in return for their ability to supply goods and services for those who benefit from their toil.

Davey, if "Betty" and your mother were born in the same year, do you mind sharing the challenges your mother faced that the queen did not?

My mother was a smoker since the age of 12 years old, was reported to me that she was wild and out of control, she married far too young, had me, endured an abusive marriage, and died at the age of 67 suffering from obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). My father never physically abused me but he did abuse my mother in my presence; I claim that is "child abuse". There are those who disagree. He was controlling and had a fierce temper that terrified me.

The real big land grab was directly after the Norman Conquest when William the bastard confiscated all the lands from the Anglo Saxon people. What else was the Doomsday book other than a record of all the lands they could steal? To this day nigh on all the aristocracy are of Norman descent and the rest of us peasants are not.

For hundreds of years after the conquest, the aristocracy spoke Norman-French and the vast majority of the people spoke Old English.

That it be Stephen. It is interesting to read the history of the great land grab of the so called kings and their nobles.

But also from what I understand there is a law that protects their parasitic rear ends from getting the royal order of the boot, so it protects their hold on the reins of perceived power, for after all, that is all it is a perception not reality.
I wonder if Betty would be still around if she had the same limitations imposed upon her life to the resources of the Society as my Mum had considering they both were born in the same year. Mum passed away 15 years ago from Alzheimer's.

I wish royalty and religion would just fade away, after doing the decent thing and giving all they have to the poor. https://inews.co.uk/news/why-is-the-church-of-england-worth-so-much...

Ian we've all heard the saying "it's the economy stupid" but for thousands of years in Britain, it's land stupid. And up until the present day land and power were the same thing.
