Davy I'm not ashamed of my part in the British Empire because I was born after the dam thing had ceased to be. But my nation should be ashamed to high heaven for what they did to the Aboriginal peoples and it's well past the time when the UK and Australia gave reparations to all first nation people around the empire. Sorry for any mistakes I'm using my phone and I haven't got my glasses.

My mother had cerebral palsy which caused her to only have limited use of her right arm. She had to use the very same lies that they told my Dad's mother about her ancestry  being West Indian not Aboriginal and if she ever said she was an aboriginal they were going to take her kids from her.  Mum used this lie to refute their claims when they tried to take her children from her because according to them we were Aboriginal. Because you see at the time the white fella didn't like having aboriginals living in towns and took their kids from them as they accused them of being good for nothings.
She raised eight of her nine children to adulthood, she lost a son due to drowning and it shook both my parents and put a pall over their relationship and their dreams.
Yes! I am a Awabakal man, we found this fact out later in life when my brother researched our ancestry . It is the very reason that I have no compulsion to follow their barbaric Abrahamic religion that bolsters their arrogance as being better than other groups that go to make up the reality of Humanity.

Ian, it seems to me that if we have not learned from our colonial history we will destroy living matter and Earth as we know it. The recent past history, from Reagan and Thatcher through Trump leadership, the U.S. political scene seems doomed. We have to overcome the expectation of being entitled to the goods and services others can produce for us and neglect the working class.

Stephen Brodie, I watched a video the other day that states it is not the owner of land that matters, it is the control of it. This was from a rancher of huge herds of cattle in a cow/calf operation. He invests in cows, not land, and leases unused land from others too old or too rich to do the work. He makes more profits that way, according to him.

European countries started external colonisation only when they had established the idea of the defendable nation-state. Before that, they happily attacked and conquered each other. Even then some countries (Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Balkan states) were part of either the Austro-Hungarian or Russian empires. The notion of empire has existed for thousands of years and might made it possible. We are perhaps the first generations to push for societies having consciense and responsibility. Let's hope we win that battle.

We exist at a time and place where royalty and religion have no place or purpose. There is no need for a land-grabbing tyrant or a mind-grabbing dominionist to control and direct our lives.

Individuals born with different talents have not only the rights but the obligations to develop those natural abilities.

Whether they have soft skills such as interpersonal, organization, and leadership skills or technical skills such as research, computer programming, accounting, or writing skills, each can hone their native abilities to the benefit of us all. Perhaps one's nature is in music, art, woodwork, mathematics, mechanical, caregiving, planning, or organizing,  education should exist to advance native abilities and create careers.

The "land grab" of England known as the "Norman Conquest," carried on by William the Conqueror of Normandy, began in 1066 C.E. It was not the first land grab in history, nor was it the last.

The lands of the Americas come to mind with the mention of the term "land grab." The colonization of Africa springs to mind, as well.

What is it about those N. Europeans that gave them the sense of entitlement to whole continents and of many cultures?

What is it about wealth that gives those who have the sense of entitlement to have others do the dirty work for them and either serve as slaves, indentured servants, and wage-workers?

The fight for working families continues today. Unions serve the purpose for which they were founded. CEO and executive compensations skyrocket, while the wage-worker suffers from stagnant wages, layoffs, and unemployment.

A single-wage worker has little or no power. However, by forming coalitions and making demands, they fight for the same rights as the slaves, surfs, and servants in ages past.

They claim the right to working for living wages, access to health care, incomes that support education for the next generation, and the ability to create a decent retirement fund.

Although now is a different time and place, working people claim their right to access resources in return for their ability to supply goods and services for those who benefit from their toil.
