Who can get through a day of the 2016 presidential campaign and not think of this? Here's part of how my mom did it in the late 1930s and the 1940s. I didn't know what she had in mind when she raised us as if there was no such thing as boys' work or…Continue

Nice Comment
Can't argue with that.
Yes, but living people will find a way. Dead people can't do anything.
Mrs.B I agree that life is more important, but I worry for the future of young working people who I think are going to find life very hard indeed even after the pandemic. Unemployment is going to hit the roof.
Ian. That's right most of the old-style pubs have gone out of business. If a pub hasn't converted into a Gastro-Pub it doesn't usually last that long. Of course, some of the old-timers still prefer the old fashioned boozers.
Yes, money is not more important than life. We live just fine within our means....our mortgage is paid off, & we have no debt.
My impression is that many British pubs have started to serve food to bring in customers. Many were lost to the smoking ban and income fell.
Joan, the current Social Democrat government has wide, general support in its actions re, the virus so the right wing is becoming more strident and ridiculous in its statements as they watch their standing in opinion polls tumbling. The latest is that everything should be open as soon as those over 50 have been vaccinated, ignoring the fact that the most economically productive part of the population will them bear the brunt od the pandemic. I think they're on a losing streak by doing so, although 'Corona fatigue' is getting stronger in the population. People are tired of restrictions but most understand that it would be foolish to stumble in the home straight. Everybody who can and wants a vaccination should have had one by mid June so there's only a few months to go.
Talking of pubs and eating at them.
In a good old Aussie pub it is not unusual to be able to get a meal at them, counter lunches they're called .
My memory about the following info is a bit hazy but apparently in NSW the publican has to allow his patrons to be able to obtain food in his establish when drink there.
I have had counter lunches in my life and they were reasonable both in quality and price.
Depending where you are in the back of beyond the pub will have pies and sausage rolls and pasties at least as there ain't to many people going walkabout. Should the pub be the centre of attraction for a small town then it is more than likely they will provide meals at in the evening.
My Grandma use to work at a pub in the kitchen,
Randy, I agree, we seem to be having businesses make accommodations to protect from the spread of this virus and mutations that seem to be coming our way.
The banks, grocery stores, pharmacies, service, and gas stations seem to be perking along at a slower pace. There is nothing wrong with that!
