Is California's wildfire apocalypse a “forest management” failure?

... “forest management” sounds like an evasion is because it also sounds doable — small, manageable, marginal, a matter of “clearing brush,” perhaps removing eucalyptus from your backyard.

Even a Green New Deal won't stop our yearly wildfire nightmare.

... by 2050, when the benefits of fast climate action will only begin to arrive, the area burned annually in the West is expected to have at least doubled, and perhaps quadrupled.

In January, a team of scientists offered an authoritative estimate for how much of the state would have to be burned under human supervision to stabilize its fire ecology20 million acres. That is just in California, which typically accounts for only about 10 percent of wildfire in the American West, and it would mean burning approximately one-fifth of the state —...

Till 1998 land managers were burning two tenths of one percent of what's needed to stabilize the state against wildfire.

A proposal by Governor Newsome ... aims for 1 million acres — just 5 percent of what’s required.

Can you imagine the political willpower needed to carefully burn one fifth of your own state? How about the new tax required?

California Can’t Afford to Wait for Climate Action

Now I'm wondering how many people would be killed by the smoke from burning a fifth of CA. Maybe downwind states would sue for the cost of protecting their residents from it. The future is complicated.

As is often the case, I'm "liking" not the facts in question but your reporting and sharing them!

Well even I am  are wondering how effective my peoples strategies in controlling wild fires are going to be as climate change bites and it does not help when you have people that are more worried about the cost such actions. But hey they rather have a fire costing them monetary wise and the cost of having to look after those that are affected by such an event.
As you all would be aware of the disastrous fires that  Australia had very late last year and early this year. I personally have not witnessed  nor heard of such furious burning till then. I grew up in the bush.
From what also I can gather they never had the likes of such wild fires till the arrival of the arrogant Europeans. Then there after due to the destruction of the Aboriginal Societies traditional fire practices could no longer be carried out.  Thus this continent then began seeing the wild fires that persist to this day. Climate change is only making them more deadly.

                                        Eucalyptus

Are eucalyptus trees more susceptible to fire. Sorry for showing my ignorance on the subject but we don't get forest fires in the UK. Our moorland and heath catches fire sometimes but rarely.

Michelle's 7-year old German Shorthaired Pointer fell into seizures late yesterday, could not stand, appeared to not be able to see, and trembled uncontrollably. They rushed the dog to an emergency veterinarian clinic who found this beautifully healthy dog in serious condition. Differential diagnoses included everything from rat poison, to neurological damage to his spine. Today, Zeeke is much improved and the suspected cause is damage to his lungs from the awful forest fires' smoke. Thankfully, the smoke cleared and Zeeke continues under close watch. We still don't know the cause and he's in the vet's care
