Hi Jaqueline,
I think part of it is because if they have to accept that you are right and there is no divine overseer, then they may feel that they have wasted their own lives in pointlessness. If you were right, they would have to lose their invisible friend and security blanket, and face their own mortality as a final thing, rather than a step towards other great things. This is such a terrifying concept to an adult who was promised 'heaven' instead of death, that even your positing the idea causes them fear. And what we fear, we tend to hate too.
Hm...But yet they insist that I'm wrong. And call me stupid. They Insist there Is a Divine Overseer.
Okay then. I will!
Not the truncated version of the bible as you know it. Nor Josephus either because he was born about the same time JC was supposedly resurrected so had no first hand knowledge of any of the events that he mentions.
An answer that is open to critical thought and does not rely on belief for its truth!
From my point of view is that they are incapable of believing that a person can live without the need for believing in a god of any shape or form!
Except the FSM (may you be touched by His noodly appendage)
What?
The Flying Spaghetti Monster :)
I've been an Atheist For About 3 Years Now.
