I'm not a vegetarian. But as years go by, I eat less and less of red meat; and this is not exactly out of concern for the cows but because red meat doesn't appeal to me anymore. I prefer chicken though I eat less and less of it. So my diet is…Continue

Nice Comment
Today I've been for the last of a series of examinations/scans and all is well. No stones in kidney or gall bladder. I do have some fatty cysts on my liver and kidneys but they're harmless. I think the slight discomfort I experienced was due to not chewing certain foods well enough and being irritated around the spot where my appendix used to be.
It sounds like you have a good carer, Joan. I'm glad you enjoy being fussed around by her.
I'm glad to hear it, Joan!
Randy, for me, the late 70s meant the years roll by faster and faster. I'm in my 85th year and treasuring every moment as if it is my last. Aches and pains attempt to nock down my pleasures, and my 6-year old great-granddaughter, Brooklyn, wraps up my ankles, knees, elbows, and fingers with her doctor's kit supplies. I accumulated a lot of Ace bandages, & have leftover first aid supplies from when my children and grandchildren were young and subject to need first aid. They all grew up, moved on, and I have a nice big box of supplies that Brooklyn uses. I also keep her supplied with WetOnes; she likes to open a fresh packet and wipe down my "wounds."
Oh yes, life is great fun at 85, trust me!
Stephen, your "spiral of depression and panic attacks" came upon you for very good reason and should be taken seriously. I hope you get professional help if/when you start into a spiral; skilled therapists can walk you out of the attacks and offer you guidelines for prevention. Once the spiral starts, it seems to get harder and harder to regain a sense of equilibrium.
Stephen, I agree, we can have great relationships with people who believe in some god and we grieve when they die. Left with the memories of our shared experiences that no longer occur, we feel the loss. I also share your hope that his faith comforted him during his dying.
I am not at all afraid of death; it is the dying that troubles me.
Davy, great quote! I am re-posting it with attribution to you. Thanks.
Glad to hear you've fought off the black dog, Stephen. It's a vicious animal, always ready to get its teeth into you when it sees an opportunity. We're old aquaintances.
Stephen, here's hoping you can keep depression at bay.
I've been often depressed for 30 years now, but it's never bad enough to keep me from doing what I need to.
When one of my brothers killed himself, another brother tried to kill himself but didn't succeed. He's still kicking. I was sad but didn't think of killing myself because of that.
Ian, that's funny.
