We are a worldwide social network of freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and secular humanists.

If you're getting close to fifty, fiftyish or over, how do you feel about having this "respectable" age ?  Having all those years behind you ?  Knowing that more than half your life is spent ?

If you look in a mirror do you see a fifty something or do you wish or think you look forty, thirty, twenty might be a bit exagerated but you might wish it ???

Do you wish that lots is to come or that you could have changed so many things ?

Is age a fixed thing related to the number of years you have lived ? or is it in the mind ? or both ?

If in some ways I feel or I would describe myself as a rebel adolescent, I'm deluded probably but not in all ways I would think...?   Would you agree that we have within us to a more or less different degree, all different ages (and what stage goes with them) inside oneself or is it too farfetched ?

I believe I own up to my age but if I look more closely to my behavior, I'm not sure I exactly show it ?

Anyway, what is the proper behavior for having gone past middle age ? is there one ?

There is no proper behaviour for passing middle age but when you are with your grandchildren you can act a little child like but that is OK because you are making up for when their parents where little and you had all that  responsibility to ensure that they were not wanting which meant that at times you had to forego the joy of having time to spend with them.

The number of years that you have lived is just that a number! You can be thirty but your metabolic age could be that of a 50 year old or you can be a fifty year old and have the metabolic age of a forty year old. that is all dependent on your genetic make-up and how you treated your body through the years.

I be notching up 3 score years this year but thought wise I feel no different to when I was sixteen but with more knowledge and life experiences under my belt than when I was 16 years old, all those years ago.

Well, a nice round number! We will be celebrating your youthful 60!

I wish I felt like when I was 16. Mentally I do but physically I can't run or bike or swim as fast, and if I lose a night of sleep, I'm a zombie for the rest of the day. I also cannot eat the vast amounts of food I ate at 16 without putting on weight, LOLZ!

I know what you mean about what you body can do! When I started work at 16 I had a 3 mile hike to the train station to catch a train into Newcastle and I use to do it between 20 to 30 minutes depending on the pace I felt like doing. But now it take takes me about an 45 to 60 minutes.

There is no "proper" way to behave, no age-appropriate way to behave, with one exception, in my opinion. The only advantage of being older is that we accumulated experience, so to act ignoring that experience and all that we learn is foolish. after all, one of the definitions of stupidity is to keep doing the same thing over and over and expect different results.

Apart from that, age is just a number, it is mostly in our heads, and in society's mind. In my head, I'm still a teenager for some things in my life, not for others. My body cannot do what I did as a teenager, and got away with it, so I must act accordingly. It does not mean to stop enjoying life or anything like that!

Maybe I'm on the same kind of wavelenght;  I can be different ages depending on how I feel, my surroundings, whatever is required of me, but my body will always tell ! (the things I can't do anymore).

"From dust you came and to dust you will return", said those Catholic priests on Ash Wednesdays as they smeared my forehead with the ashes of something.

What nonsense! I came from female and I am returning to female.

Shortly after one of my dad's sperms fertilized one of my mom's eggs, a shot of Y chromosome changed what would have been become female genitalia to what became male genitalia. A bit later another shot of Y chromosome changed what would have become a female brain to what became a male brain.

About sixty years later I became less interested in chasing women. In another ten or so years my body started growing boobs.

Take that, male chauvinist pigs, if you live long enough!
