We are a worldwide social network of freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and secular humanists.

Do you think there will be a World War III that is started by religious tension? These days it seems like we cant turn on the TV without something on the news about anti Christian acts or any other religion that isn't Muslim in the Middle East or Anti Muslim acts or any other religion that isn't Christian going on here in the US. This might just be something that just sounds like bolloks but the feeling wont go away. What are your feelings about it? The world would be a better place without religion anyway.

I don't think there will be a WWIII. This looks to me like the run of the mill unrest I have witnessed since I have memory; it seems the world never changes. I also think (personal opinion, of course) that religion will continue to decrease in its role in the world in general; there are signs that the % of people who don't pay too much attention to religion is increasing, although of course, we have theocracies especially in the Muslim world that will take time to dismantle. I think the younger generations tend to be less religious (at least in practice) than their parents.

Not so sure about the Muslim youth.
They are too easily excited for our own good.

Don't forget the Israelis and the Iranians both are slow burning fuses that could trigger off a religious WWIII. Though I hope I am not around when either fuse burns to the nuclear powder keg.

I'm not as optimist as Adriana.

Though I don't think we'll see a worldwide full-scale Crusade vs. Jihad - both sides are themselves subject to inner turmoil that would prevent the all-out cohesion required for a WWIII - but the political climate is indeed poisoned by religion.

Like with the Earth's weather, when you add energy and carbon (or religion and poverty), you reap increased turbulence in your system. And there's plenty of both flowing right now...
