We are a worldwide social network of freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and secular humanists.
I think this website, while has some users, is a bit dead...
I know that http://atheistnexus.com/ is much more active than this website, however, because I'm a Deist, meaning I believe in God while rejecting revelation, I'm unable to complete ownership.
I would safely bet that smartphones and mobile Web in general is a problem, and we do need to use well-developed educational efforts to stop people who still don't have one from falling into mobile addiction.

Yes, it's quiet here, but agnostic.com might work for you as it has atheists, agnositcs, & many in between.
dead no. quiet yes.
and you are right on mobile phone addiction
I bet you don't have a smartphone, otherwise you likely won't be on this website (unless you are a nerd who actually uses the browser more than apps on your phone). Most people just use apps for everything.
We need to make some campaigns to stop those who still don't have a smartphone from getting one, especially the fact that you shouldn't give one to children, so they won't be sentenced before they can make a rational choice by themselves.
By the way your so called smartphone is actually the dumbing down phone and studies in an Australian university is are pointing to the fact that it is dumbing down children and adults aren't that far behind.
As Pestalozzi said
Thinking leads man to knowledge. He may see and hear, and read and learn, whatever he pleases, and as much as he pleases; he will never know anything of it, except that which he has thought over, that which by thinking he has made the property of his mind. – Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi.(1746 – 1827)
When it is a property of your mind and should you need to look things up it is to freshen your recall of the material not the substance of the material.
If AU was the only option it would feel slow, but if you, like me, use other sites you come to appreciate the way people are more deliberate here.
I agree whole heartedly Stephen.
I may not say much on here that often of late but always keep a weather eye on things and people tend to be more to the theme of a conversation than elsewhere. One of the things that attracted me to the site in the beginning as well as being more thoughtful in their use of words to convey their opinion.
I use a mobility scooter and it really pissess me off when people nearly always walk into me because they use a smartphone without looking up. Of course, I use my smartphone when I'm out and about but I use the laptop when I'm home.
I stop my mobility scooter, remove my hands from the controls, & fold my arms, when I see anyone approaching me using their phone. Then if they walk into me, they cannot accuse me of running into them, because I was at full stop, & not touching the tiller. This has happened many times, & it's happened with all age groups!
My smartphone is used for phone calls, texting my family, & grocery store coupons, & never when driving the scooter!
This website & others, are always logged in from my computer.
I didn't want to say, but I do exactly the same thing.
for some reason i have only come close to ramming into someone when i am on the phone. i think i have a proximity censor and it works quite well for me
