Is this here pop up warning seen in screenshot there, is that warning going to deter new members from joining?
Whenever I try to click onto Atheist Universe website, THAT warning pops up. Every time. It sounds pretty scarey, eh? Does to me, anyway.
I was told once that it has something to do with...not renewing some type of website license maybe ? i can't recall exactly what the phrase was.
IT is maybe hard to read, but that screenshot reads that AU has attackers that might try to steal your information and offers the passerby the option to "back to safety" and it might be fairly unnerving to some who fear computer attacks.
(i had one once, what a mess......)
but, is there anything that someone can do to stop that pop up from our website here? I can imagine it has to stop some people from pressing forward to this website. IF i was not already familiar with this site, it would have turned me off, too.
now i recall, it was that the "certificate" is invalid.
i do not know what that exactly means, does it cost money to re-validate it? is that the problem?
If so, How much?
I'm getting that again lately too, but I get onto the site from the search engine now, instead of clicking on the email notice. It is however getting damned annoying. I also get the not secure notice up top but it doesn't prevent my doing anything.
yes, good point, but, you ARE comfortable here and know the place. However, i can imagine it does deter newbies.
or those who have been gone a while or who are super worried about computer virus, etc.
A bunch of new members have just joined as atheistnexus went belly up, so several moved over here.
well, that is encouraging.
but, i still think some people would follow the instructions on their computer to avoid this AU site.
Seems to me Doone should be checking into this.
oh is Doone still around here? how nice.
yes he might know what is the solution to it.
Yes, he posts often.
I suspect that this is the same problem I saw on Atheist Nexus before it was taken down. It may be caused by the fact that Ning doesn't secure its sites with the https protocol, but the less secure http. It's doubtful that any petition or action aimed at Ning will cause them to take on the effort necessary to more thoroughly secure Atheist Universe.
Just between you, me, and the fence post, I think they're cheap bastards.
Doone said it'll be taken care of within 48 hours.
ha, we simultaneously posted same thing at same time.
(Is there a word for that yet?)
We used to say....''jinx, you owe me a coke.''
