That's what I thought you thought! :) too funny!

Thanks to Glen for pointing me to this article by Cory Doctorow, where I learned that Nate Bellegrad has made what he called "Astronomatryoshkas" for his girlfriend, an astronomy major.

Can you tell who all five of them are?

My guesses: right to left: Newton, Galileo, Sagan, Hawking, Copernicus

In order from Big to small: Copernicus, Galileo, Newton, Sagan, Hawking
Hawking was hard for me to recognize but you are correct.
But you can see the slant in the head, the big glasses and the tiny wheelchair. It was the first I identified.
Of the five, which have had conflicts with religion?
I have an IDEA: let's keep adding to this joke, but have the scientist-did-IT-with and then guess what follows.

For example:

Dawkins does IT with.....
Dawkins does IT without delusions.
Best response ever! LOL!
In the same train of thought -

Laplace did IT without unneeded hypotheses.

Occam did IT sharply.
Both are winners!
E.O Wilson does it with aunts :)
