Properly read, the Bible is the most potent force for atheism ever conceived – Isaac Asimov
I’m an open atheist around school and in general, and I never shy away from answering questions of my pro-science nature. I feel that I should match the proud wearing of my ‘Darwin-Fish‘ pin with an equally proud and proactive attitude towards confrontation – and this comes in the form of many discussions on religion, one of my favourite subjects...

Comment by Carnun on April 2, 2013 at 8:12am @Robert: What a great idea, I'm sure there must be one on sale somewhere. I'll be keeping my eyes open :)
Comment by Robert Joseph Jagiello on April 2, 2013 at 4:42am I am often entertained by some analyses of scripture, generally wish I could remember what in the hell I read (given advanced years), but then think of the block wall of ignorance, or,indeed, outright antipathy directed at me in the deeply religious community in which I reside, I do not think the game is worth the candle, so I usually say nothing. But if anyone knows of an version of the bible annotated by an atheist, please ... let me know of its existence, and where I might get it. I am familiar with many of the popularized critiques of selected portions, but I am talking about a flat out, detailed annotation of that whole mythical collection that has been a factor in so much human suffering.

Comment by Carnun on January 6, 2013 at 4:12pm I hope not too Jamie :P
@Adriana Did you make the blog 'featured'? If yes, thank you very much :)
Comment by Jamie on January 6, 2013 at 3:50pm Adriana - I know! I'm British, don't you know. Sarcasm is our pass-time!
I guess we are all guilty of some kind of craziness at some times - I'm probably more harsh regarding it as I've never had these beliefs. I've always just found it ridiculous, even as an infant, but I've got too technical a mind to be able to live in a dream world. Constantly analysing everything.
Carnun, the donkeys could be a mis-translation, but I hope not. Makes the belief all that more amusing!

Comment by Adriana on January 6, 2013 at 3:42pm @Vix, I agree with you and disagree with Dawkins on that one too. Plus, if Dawkins says that teaching children about hell is child abuse, then he must realize the Bible (King James or other versions) has a lot of stuff in there, which is clearly not appropriate for children; there is murder, genocide, rape, incest, child abuse, etc.
There are parts of the Hebrew bible that are beautiful from a literary point of view, like some of the Psalms, but other parts are simply boring accounts of wars or crazy prophecy-type stuff, not even that elegantly written.
