Feedback and Notes

Due to Ning (our Web hosting company) being bought recently from the ashes of Mode Media we often experience 500 connection errors. Our apologies but these errors are out of our control. Hopefully, this will improve as the new company gains experience. Regards, AU

We are a worldwide social network of freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and secular humanists.

Damon Linker, a writer[?] for The Week, posits that we no longer are honest about our atheism. He is short of calling us lame duck atheists and in this post, I disagree with his thesis pointing out that instead of death of god leading to bleakness and despair it creates the greatest opportunity for human progress and development.

thanx Tom. Ues, before QM there was the aether, which is sort of residually hanging around as quantum foam and of course good bye to phlogiston and hello wave-particle photons. The Kropotkin lead sounds groovy.

The world, this race this species had managed brilliantly prior this nightmare god making its appearance and draining its believers of life so it can live.

Well stated, Lutz; gods of all kinds are nightmarish and their priests are parasitic.

I'm rereading Petr Kropotkin's book, Mutual Aid: A Factor in Evolution.

I first read it about thirty years ago. It's an anarchic and probably atheistic anthropologist's take on homo sapiens and our predecessors. It's optimistic where religion is pessimistic.

BTW, only in jest do I say I understand QM. Before QM, scientists spoke with more certainty than they do now.

I'm glad of the a-logical universe of quantum mechanics. that has given me heaps of inspiration that that is more real than the delusional psychoses inherent in semetic monotheism. the universe is a quantum process. it is forever [though the Hindus call this the Kali Yuga]. In the future we may realize just how eternal life is and we are part of that. The world, this race this species had managed brilliantly prior this nightmare god making its appearance and draining its believers of life so it can live.

Truth not only matters, it is the ONLY thing that matters.

I'm going to analyze that.

An ability to recognize truth matters, as does an ability to adapt to truth.

Adapting requires an ability to see one or more non-bleak alternatives.

It's then helpful to have the ability to choose an alternative.

And, of course, an ability to learn.

Xians, having none of those abilities, need fantasy.

Indeed Neal,

Where are the honest theists?

They don't exist.

Once again Onyango good post, as always food for thought.

You are right, Alan. Only truth matters

I'll always choose to live in reality, no matter how bleak it may seem, to living in some fantasy world. Truth not only matters, it is the ONLY thing that matters.

Someone asked where are the honest theists. I offer there is no honest Christian. They would all be dead by now

"If atheism is true, it is far from being good news. Learning that we’re alone in the universe, that no one hears or answers our prayers, that humanity is entirely the product of random events, that we have no more intrinsic dignity than non-human and even non-animate clumps of matter, that we face certain annihilation in death, that our sufferings are ultimately pointless, that our lives and loves do not at all matter in a larger sense, that those who commit horrific evils and elude human punishment get away with their crimes scot free — all of this (and much more) is utterly tragic."

Always the same. Instead of striving for justice in life, their laziness hopes for a magical being to take care of injustice after death. Instead of embracing the random beginnings of life and preserving that incredible happening, we allow the believers to lead us to destruction because of the foolish notion that we'll live forever.

Where are the honest theists seems to be a better question. But of course, to be a theist, you are immersed in the great lie.

Nice post. =)
