We are a worldwide social network of freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and secular humanists.

What if we could use 100% of our brain?

Our brain size relates more to proportion than it does to intelligence. Our brain is smaller than a whale’s because our body is smaller. Still, your brain is structured in a way that enables you to survive and succeed. So would you believe that humans only use 10% of their brains instead of 100%?

If you want to understand it better I advise you to watch "LUCY". It’s one of the best movies. This movie talks about the capability of our brain when you use it completely.

We can notice 7 things that could happen if the potential our brains increased:

Lucy is fiction and I thought this line about using 10% of the brain has been demonstrated to be false? This wikipedia(I know) piece is a good place to start for anyone looking for scholarship on the question

No animal will be able to use even a portion of the brain.

Having written that there are chemical signals that occure.

It's too bad the movie didn't dig deep enough into that.

W.T.F. it's nonfiction Holliwood enttertainment.

Interesting movie.

Understanding emotion, empathy, and understanding of others is something the movie "Lucy" may have lacked.

It wouldn't work. Overload of information to begin with. then there is the processing as well. The reason our brains are the way they are is because this is it's optimum because of inbuilt redundancy. Anyone who has ingested nootropics will tell you that even that little lift is about the limit of not loosing it completely. Unless you want to be so out of it you wouldn't recognise anything simply because it would be all cosmic grey noise.

Lucy is fiction. These people do not even bother to understand the molecular biology of our emergent analogue hierarchial brain and its neural connectivity, how the neo-cortex works as well as the whole amazing mind generated intelligence --- this idea misses the point. Our brains are not engines. You cannot supercharge them. In the 19th century there was this idea of a bigger brain was better. At a morgue these experts went all gooey seeing one such organ and the brain surgeon said it was of an idiot. Haha. Neanderthalers had larger brains. Did not make them smarter. They went extinct instead.

I saw the movie "Lucy" with Scarlet Johansen.

The little I know is intellegence can imrove with study. Regarding that I also 'think'

that 'smartness' can inprove with diversity.

Samuel Clemens quote is appropriate.

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime."
