Watch the moment Tory minister squirms while justifying cutting disability benefits to help the rich

Plans to cut the disability benefit PIP were just a "suggestion", a Conservative Cabinet minister has said.

Nicky Morgan, the Education Secretary, appeared uncomfortable when asked about the cut on the BBC' Question Time programme.

The cuts would see 370,000 disabled people lose an average of £3,500 a year, reduce payments for disabled people who require specially adapted appliances to live independent lives.

In the same Budget, the Chancellor announced tax cut for the top 15 per cent of earners, as well as cuts to tax on corporations' profits and cuts to capital gains tax paid by the investor class.

I don't understand politics, & why should who you vote for matter when a person needs decent benefits? Smacks of bribery.......

Duncan Smith warns government risks 'dividing' society

Man in wheelchair

We've all had to suffer cuts to Government programs, but I think these cuts by the Tory's are some of the meanest we have ever seen. Listen to Duncan-Smith give his reason why he resigned and remember he has always supported Austerity cuts.

I really think that's a universal issue. We've had cuts like that too, as well as provincial cuts.

The mental health has suffered greatly & it just puts more people out on the street & among the homeless who shouldn't be there. Then of course it leads to the drug thing.........

This Tory government has got many of its ideas from the right in America and they've gone too far in cutting benefits from the very poorest of society, and at the same time cutting the Tax's of the rich.

Whatever happened to the idea that ''if it ain't broke, don't fix it''?

When Ian Duncan-Smith the Doyen of the right and supporter of benefits cuts leaves the Government saying the new cut are going too far really means somethings gone very wrong.

Of course it is......we always say that we are all equal, but some are more equal than others....

I know its not a popular thing to say at the moment but I believe its a class thing, these Tory's will always support the upper class and people with money. I have been fighting these people one way or the other most of my life.

Comment by Mrs.B on March 19, 2016 at 7:47pm

Well that is a shame, & I don't understand why people are now so expendable.

Mrs.B. I maintain that we had a welfare system to be proud of, where every old, Poor or Disabled person was looked after, never dropping through the safety net. But this Tory Government is bit by bit dismantling our once proud boast that nobody ever goes without because of old age or illness.
