The Ride

Swimming upstream I lock onto an island
floating in space I'm taken with a plan
crashing and locking into my mate
a desire that a moment can sate

Splitting into many something else arises
nurturing feeding opening my eyes
thrust from comfort into the cold
one breath of air and I join the fold

Smiling laughing sobbing and crying
the first years emotions are flying
learning to react to endless stimuli
all I know is what I am told

Body growing brain forming
faster faster no time for sleeping
so much to see so much to be
tumbling days an eternity

Rules not for me just to be broke
chuckling and smiling at natures jokes
I can read I can add I can't be broken
I know more than any woman or man

Life moves and something stirs
there's something I need something to feed
order is lost chaos ensues
constant desires fire my youth

Stumbling and bumbling finding a way
chest beating beast must enter the fray
confusion becomes clarity
from another's burning charity

Can't be hurt I am invincible
I am the master of all
power and might to do wrong
everyone must listen to my song

Years of great fun then disappear
on my own there's things to fear
must east and drink for survival
willingly I put on the shackles

Companions found and lost
one stays no matter the cost
using my skills becoming human
wisdom roots seeing the fallen

Struggling for survival years fly
still laughter and tears and now sighs
slower and gentler as we open our eyes
at times stronger and harsher, that's the ride

Work and play to the end of the day
holding on now to what people say
fighting the rage as we age
we never want to grow old

One by one they fall away
one by one they disappear
one by one we shed a tear
one by one we end
