We are a worldwide social network of freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and secular humanists.

From his Tusculan disputations, it appears Cicero was way ahead of the the creationists. in that work, the teleological arguments are made and dispensed with including the argument from complexity, Behe's favourite.

I heard an astronaut in an interview say (he) they were able to measure their place in space by 1/10,000 of a degree using cestial bodies.

Eratosthenes measured the size of the earth.

Epicurus - forgot about him. You know in the Upanisads and definitely in the Vedas they were questioning the nature of the mind - and its insubstantiability. With Vishnu some sought personal obliteration. This in turn ended up in the ancient Indians not believing in the gods either! millennia ago! before the greeks who were somewhat confused. In the Hindu religion being an atheist is taken as a philosophical stance that is not derided. Because in the end reality was all a veil of energy and behind that veil - nothing! love it. so confirmed nearly a century ago by Bohr/Heisenber's quantum mechanics. Where the further you go in- the less particles there are - the higher the energy quotient and the greater the space between these particle-shell-field-waves. Like the universe at the other end. More space than matter. Most of it dark. As such gods and such other aetherial ectoplasm having escaped out of the minds of the insane do not find much sustenance - except in those deluded enough to believe in them.
