doone replied to Dallas Gaytheist's discussion The AVM Video Thread in the group Animal | Vegetable | MineralIn the opinion of many Christians if a person does evil deeds they will go to Hell and be punished by Satan and/or his demons.
Hitler, Stalin and assorted historical bad guys, murderers, rapists etc are supposedly receiving their punishment in Hell because they committed acts of evil; so in the minds of many Christians they were doing the work of bad old Satan.
Then why would he punish them?
If they were doing the evil stuff he wanted them to do, surely he would reward them?
So, if Satan punishes bad/evil people, he must work for God. They must be on the same side.
Just try that reasoning on a Christian.

Comment by Michel on February 27, 2012 at 3:20pm Satan, hell, punishment, that's the stick part of their strategy. The carrot part is eternal justice.

Comment by Hope on February 24, 2012 at 11:32pm Yes! But the question is (God and Satan=two sides of one coin?) or (Are they are both betting over mankind?)

Comment by Neal on February 24, 2012 at 8:31pm Hah!
Comment by Stuart Buckle on February 19, 2012 at 1:03pm True. However, a large number of Christians would say that they (God and Satan) are on opposing sides; Good vs Evil. I am sure that if Richard Dawkins had included a question about this in his recent survey, a large percentage would have come out with this view. I was merely trying to point out that, if they actually existed, they bat for the same team and would not be operating separately.
The "why would he punish them?" question was for Christians to ponder.
Wonder what the working conditions would be; sick pay, vacations, pension etc, in that job.
PS
Did you hear about the dyslexic devil-worshipper who sold his soul to SANTA?

Comment by Jaume on February 19, 2012 at 9:54am It's in the Bible, actually. At least part of it. E.g., in the Book of Job, Satan definitely works for God - both as a counselor and a prosecutor.
Satan is a composite character with many faces, but if I had to pick only one Satan counterpart in recent history, it would have to be the FBI operative who just 'stung' El Khalifi, the Capitol would-be terrorist. Tempter, accuser, punisher - all in a single package - that's exactly what Satan is supposed to be, if you read the Bible right. Then, the "why would he punish them?" question becomes irrelevant - he has to, because it's his job.
