I wrote this post in TA and I felt I could post it here and get your responses and contributions. It is a discussion mainly between me and a fellow who claims to have a biochemistry background. We have had several exchanges but I have a feeling he doesn't read the responses we write since he goes back to the same arguments time and time again.
Here is the current state of the discussion. I trust that with your contributions many issues will get clarified. Where am wrong, please point it out to me so it is not repeated elsewhere. You can write your comments here or on the page but I think since am more interested in it than he is, here would be fine for me.
Thanks for taking your time to go through the comments [they are many] and making a comment.

Comment by Onyango Makagutu on November 10, 2012 at 3:20pm Thanks Chris, I definitely will use this video elsewhere.

Comment by Chris on November 9, 2012 at 4:41pm I liked how the video showed something from nothing.

Comment by Davy on November 9, 2012 at 11:52am Another Goodie. Thanks Chris!
Yeah! I am as thick as a brick too but porous to factual ideas!

Comment by Michel on November 9, 2012 at 10:13am @Chris - Thanks for posting. I'll add it to the AU Videos.

Comment by Chris on October 22, 2012 at 4:20am "Common Sense" is another worthless phrase. I feel like choking people who say that.
Matagutu, j.w. is jerking you all over the place. Concentrate on one topic and don't take religious people seriously. Try not to argue biblical, or other religious texts and don't apologize.
The Sept 19th exchange where j.w. simplifies irreducible complexity to the point of ridiculousness is difficult to take seriously. j.w. isn't interested in learning about evolution, or the origin of the universe. He ONLY cars about spreading the JC - don't get any on your shoes.
People like that are obsessive. They are on a mission from god to convert whom ever they can get to listen and respond to them. If you want to spend waste your time conversing with j.w. go for it and have fun. Can he prove unicorns, god, the Loch Ness monster, or some other nonsense exists?
For information about reducible complexity watch this.

Comment by Adriana on October 19, 2012 at 3:50pm "Mindless random chance" comes up so often in the discussions with theists, it makes me want to scream. First off, "mindless" does not mean stupid or magic, it means simply that there is no consciousness guiding the process, that is all; that is NOT invoking magic at all. "Random chance" is also misguided: the universe stems from the laws of physics, not from "random chance." "Random chance" are empty words used by the theist to make the possibility of a universe not created by a god seem stupid. And even if we do not know the exact answer to "why is there something instead of nothing?", god is a stupid answer because it is a NON ANSWER, it explains nothing, just pushes the question back to "why is there a god?"

Comment by Davy on October 19, 2012 at 2:51pm {1) THE STEADY STATE THEORY (It says in short that the universe has always been there. And this has been the prevailing theory for centuries. All the famous Greek philosophers held this view.}
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Onyango. Sir Fred Hoyle championed the Steady State of Cosmology,
"The theory was one alternative to the Big Bang which agreed with key observations of the day, namely Hubble's red shift observations, and Hoyle was a strong critic of the Big Bang. He is responsible for coining the term "Big Bang" on BBC radio's Third Programme broadcast at 1830 GMT on 28 March 1949. It is popularly reported that Hoyle intended this to be pejorative, but the script from which he read aloud shows that he intended the expression to help his listeners. Hoyle explicitly denied that he was being insulting and said it was just a striking image meant to emphasize the difference between the two theories for radio listeners."
From Wikipedia.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
{2) THE BIG BANG THEORY (This is a more recent theory and is based on new information that the universe is not static but is expanding at about 1/4 the speed of light. The logic here is that It began from a single pint smaller than an atom. Although this is now the most prevalent theory in science, no one can say where the point that exploded in the “big bang” came from!}
One theory on where the universe originated from can be found in string theory and according from what I have read the universe arose from the collision from branes.
Membrane (M-Theory)
In theoretical physics, a membrane, brane, or p-brane is a spatially extended mathematical concept that appears in string theory and related theories (e.g. M-theory and brane cosmology). The membrane exists in a static number of dimensions.
We do not know what occurs within a singularity, we no nothing about its actual physical characteristics or the form or number of dimensions that characterised the singularity.
They believe that at the centre of a back hole is a singularity.
But we have the evidence of what occurred after the explosion and each year we are finding more and more cosmological phenomenon that when explained helps us to understand the initial conditions as close as we can to the bang itself.
but
After its initial expansion from a singularity, the Universe cooled sufficiently to allow energy to be converted into various subatomic particles, including protons, neutrons, and electrons.
Hope it helps you

Comment by Hope on October 19, 2012 at 12:20pm There's a term called "entropy" .. And theists argue that entropy is a prove that the universe is under control.. "referring to god"
But entropy can only be applied in a closed system.. This universe an open system,,
What causes the big bang?
the vacuum energy caused it..
Where did that energy come from?
From the vacuum itself and here is the proof... Casimir effect...
That's my short understanding of cosmology..
Also, Arch posted a great video of Lawrence M. Krauss! I liked it..
